HELP bolt for top hat is stripped

Default HELP bolt for top hat is stripped

the alan head that takes the top hat off of the strut stripped out while under alot of pressure when i was taking it out and now im stuck in my driveway with my car on jacks ... how can i get the bolt off of where the alan head is so i can get the spring off and put my new coils on there ?

Easy. Vice grips up high on the shock piston near the top hat.

i tried that first and not enough room to fit in there heres a pic
ahd where the nut is at the top the alan head inside of it stripped during the process

What do you mean there isn't enough room? I've done it many times. I have to do it on both of my rear shocks.

Put vise grip on the piston, put vise grip on the ground, step on it, and turn the nut untill it comes off.

I know. Clamp that bitch on there tight. Lay it down on the ground to keep the vice grips from turning.

somehow the bolt is still spinning with the alan head still after trying like 3 diff ways to vice grip it

Are you putting the grips on the piston through the coils? And you hafta clamp that thing on hard. Almost to the point you can't lock it down.

The dust shield is in the way. You really need to get it clamped on the piston proper. That won't work.

you will have to push the rubber cover up so you can get a better grip on the piston...just slide the cover up and let us know how that works...

That black piece is metal? How does it allow the piston to travel then? How are you even getting the vice grips on it?

yea its metal and not sure but they were traveling lol..and it bent the metal once i put all my strength into squeezing the vice gripz

edit: now that i think about it i dont think they were traveling cause it rode to shitty for a nice setup it had
