Default adj cam gears hit back plastic/offset different than stock? NO COVERS! NO!

I was going to install a set of adj cam gears from buddy club on my B18c and the offset is different than the factory ones, causing them to hit the back cover. I didn't care for this so I re-installed the factory ones for the time being.

Now I've talked to a few shops and they say this is normal because of how they have to be made.

Ok, so I guess I'll try again and trim the back cover to fit. I want to keep running the covers as I think its good security against gravel and rubber getting trapped in there. The car is only used as a road racing car so its quite possible to get gravel everywhere.

What does everyone else do?

Everyone usually cuts their valve covers when installing adj cam gears for easy access. If you don't need them then there is no point to even install them.

Thats not what I'm saying. Adjusting them is one thing. But once adjusted, you do not need to change them. They hit the plastic cover that is bolted to the cylinder head. I do not want to remove nor do I agree with running without covers.

So I'm asking to find out what other people do?

Could you hold the upper TB cover off the head with washers? It would leave little seams where it didn't sit where it was supposed to, but would do better than having no protection.

lol I guess no one has had this problem??? Its not the outter timing cover that rubs but the one that is up against the head. I'll just prob trim that one.

You're talking about the inner timing belt cover. I honestly have never seen anyone run one with adj cam gears.

Absolutely disagree. If you're trying to fine tune your setup or possibly you've changed out some components then you'll need constant access to them. Never seen anyone run them without discarding or cutting out the cover.
