Adjusting lift d-series?
I want to cam my D15B7 here pretty soon. I was wondering if for the time being it there was anyway to adjust the valve lash to sort of emulate it. I have my valves set at .008 and .010, just like they should be. If I were do increase that gap would that do anything or does it not work like that?
I hear running tighter is a good way to burn things up. How much tighter we talking about? It might, however, make up for lost material from wear. The motor has 140k miles on it.
.006 is the same weather it is a new engine or an engine with 140k on it when adjusted regularly. I have always run my clearances at .006 intake & .008 on exhaust.
If you are looking for more out of your cam, buy a bigger one.

no ****, only reason I said check there is because the only guys i've seen try different lash settings on the dyno and compare the differences. Oh and if your looking for d info honda-tech isn't the best place, d-series and onecamonly are dedicated to single slams

I haven't put all of the 140k miles on it and I have had to do a lot of repairs from botched jobs the previous owner/s did. I plan on getting a bigger cam. Just wanted to know if this was something people are already doing. I'm an automotive student and I like to learn what I am actually doing when I change or adjust something on a car. Rest assured, I don't expect much I just want the learning experience.
alright. heres some info
valves get hot. just look at their job. they are right in the combustion chamber.
the valve releases most of its heat when its closed and making contact with the valve seat.
the tighter your lash, the less amount of time the valve has to transfer heat into the valve seat and head.
so if u are drag racing, a tighter lash isnt really a bad thing. the motors not going to have time to heat the valve so much it melts a chunk out of it.
but if ur doing road racing, etc, extended pulls, lots of high load high rpm, you really want to give the valve time to cool.
