I just did the timing belt on my 95 Accord... That is not a fun job. Can anyone tell me why the crank pulley/harmonic balancer has worn a deep groove into the lower cover.. I was planning on replacing the cover, but I didnt know if it was going to be ruined... What do you guys think.

That's normal its the balancer rubbing into it if u buy a new one it's gonna happen just the same

 

Please tell more? I've seen this where the seal on the adjuster/tensioner bolt for the t-belt seal goes or is not replaced....last time I gave up on the rubber seal and just used an jesus clip......

 

I think the cover warped because of the time and temperature over time.

 

When oil gets on the timing cover it swells, the front of the cover bulges out and contacts the main pulley. About $40 at the dealer. I'd go ahead and get the outer cover seal too.

Did you check the PCV vacuum line at the manifold to see if it's soft or collapsing shut when the car is running?

Did you install the front balance shaft seal and retainer kit when you did the timing belt?

If the first condition is present, the front balance shaft seal can be pushed out due to crankcase pressure. The seal retainer kit prevents this from happening. Worth the $7.00 in parts for sure!

 

I dont see how the tensioner bolt seal would affect the position of the cover? The cover right now seems to be bowed out... if you were to not put the seal on I would think it would return to proper alignment.

 

The pcv hose is fine, and i just replaced the pcv.As for the retainer kit Im not real sure I understand what its for?... When I replaced the belts I replaced the cam and crank seals as well as the oil pump seal..The oil pump seal had a kind of retainer kit on it..Im not sure if thats what you are refering to though.

 

they leak, oil gets on it and swells it along with heat, keep in mind your engine is quite old, the t belt probably had been done at the very least once so who is say the cover was put back on correctly? was it missing a bolt? is your crank pulley good? i have seen quite a few go and they are wobbeling i wouldn't worry about it honestly its just a normal thing.
