HELP! Want to make my 88 crx with 818b smog legal!
I want to make my 88 crx si (OBD0) smog legal with a b18b engine(OBD2). Is there a semi simple way to do this??? Also which computer will I be using? Please help. I've read a lot of forums and I STILL don't get it!
You will need to make sure it's a USDM motor, and you will need a USDM ECU, and everything needs to be setup exactly as it would in an OBD-0 Integra of the same year or later.
If it's a JDM motor with a 4 digit block code, you may run into problems depending on where you live. In Nevada, they told me there are no JDM motors allowed period. I don't know how the rest of the US is doing though.
In California they used to do JDM motors as long as everything was converted to US spec.
Either way you will need take a close look at the Integra shop manual to make it happen.

Are you sure about no jdm motors in nevada?? Im pretty sure you can run just about anything there(no cat, no carb, fart cans whatever). I'm positive that california would be the hardest to smog jdm motors. But i've smoged jdm d15b2's and recently I smoged a JDM DOHC zc. But that was the smog guys error.
In NV smoging them and getting them certified are two different things. If your due for your annual smog check, and the tech notices it's a swap (which they usually don't), they are required to tell you to have it inspected by the DMV. The DMV must do an inspection that shows you've installed it per the motors original vehicle (ECU, emissions, wiring, etc...). Once it passes, they put a certification sticker in your engine bay that says the new motor now belongs to that car.
Here in Las Vegas NV, the DMV will not even look at a 4 digit Japanese block code. They immediately black-listed my close friends B16A just because it was a "JDM" motor. They wouldn't even look at it. They took pictures of it and said he had to take it out. The poor guy just spent all that money and put the damn thing in. Now that car can never be re-registered until it gets an inspection with a USDM motor. I went and talked to these guys and they were total @$$ holes saying JDM this and JDM that and how the emissions are totally different over there (whatever that means). I then e-mailed the NV DMV headquarters to see what could be done to help my friend. Their only response was that [b]I]/b] was now being investigated for knowingly tampering with a federal emissions system (or some **** like that). NV is phucked up. Phucking CA liberal bull$hit has taken it over...
