'05 Pilot Power Steering Pump Replacement---Help
Can anyone contact me and email me the replacement procedures from the service manual for the replacement of the power steering pump and for the power steering fluid flush
? I will take pictures as I go and post when I am done. I need to get this done ASAP, sounds horrible and I am afraid it will not last.
Thanks again all. Great community!!! Remember folks, take pictures and post your repairs so that we can all learn. Cheers.

cricket cricket......ok, I pose another question. Here is my blind plan for the steering pump replacement. Correct me if you know this is wrong.
Step
1) Prepare the car for work and steering fluid deluge.
2) remove the drive belt from the pulley
3) drain the reservoir
4) unbolt the steering fluid pump
5) clean everything up
6) install the new steering fluid pump
7) put the old pulley onto the new pump
8) put the drive belt back on
9) ensure everything is torqued as I go
10) ensure all the steering fluid hoses are clamped back to the reservoir and pump
11) refill the reservoir
12) cap everything
13) clean up
14) drink beer

IIRC you need to bench bleed the pump. That is one item you are not supposed to run dry, which is what would happen if you replace it the way you are suggesting.
If you haven't I would suggest purchasing a Helms manual to help with the replacement.

I would only bleed this if I was trying to get the air out? Right? If replacing, would air be in the system if I reinstall the pump and then add the fluid? I am assuming so, so I would install the pump, add fluid, start turning the wheel to and fro, and then add more fluid as needed until the wheel turns easily. Check fluid, again, and then ride around for awhile, and then check fluid when I return home. Done......I hope......???? Right???
A simple drain & refill can be done very easy. Simply pull the upper return hose off the reservoir and catch the fluid that drains out. Now feed one end of some tubing into the return hose and the other into large bottle (securely so it won't fall over or out). Now start the engine and turn the steering wheel from left to right until all the old fluid gets pumped out into your bottle. Shut the engine off and hook the return line back up. Now fill the reservoir with fresh fluid to the full line. Start the engine turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed out all the air. Now top off the reservoir.
If the new fluid looks dirty after this process, repeat it one more time.
It's a slow process but it works perfectly. I've done this on two Hondas now and this is exactly how it's outlined in the manual.
Takes 1.1qts total or something like that.
As for replacing the pump, here is the step by step from the manual for an 05 TL (very similar setup):
- place catch pan below vehicle
- drain ps reservoir
- remove side engine mount bracket
- remove drive belt
- cover auto tensioner, ac compressor, with shop towels to protect from ps fluid
- disconnect pump inlet & outlet hoses and plug them
- remove pump mounting bolts
- cover the openings of the pump with tape to keep dirt out
- connect hoses to new pump w/ new o-rings
- loosely install pump and tighten pump fittings securely
- tighten pump mounting bolts to specified torque
- install drive belt
- install side mount bracket & torque bolts
- fill reservoir to upper level per previous instructions

Thanks 94eg!!!!!
I am hoping I don't have to take the motor mount off. I didn't have luck with it when I replaced the timing belt. I hated that thing.
I did break down and buy a Helms manual. Hope it is worth the moo-la.
Thanks again. I will take pictures and post when I am done.
Cheers!!!

It's totally worth the money.
You only need to take the mount bracket off. It's easy. But this is for the TL which has the steering pump in front of the engine down lower. The pilot has the pump on top, so you probably don't need to mess with the mount. Should be very easy. Let us know...
