HELP!! d16y8 in a 1995 Del Sol running crappy throwing codes....
was praying a genius could help me solve my problem! so i recently dropped a d16y8 into my 95 del sol... the car is hard to start and revs poorly, it is throwing a code 6 (water temp sensor) and a code 9 (cylinder sensor)... the y8 came out of a 2000 civic ex... im using the b series 0bd1 harness (car used to have the b16 swap factory) with a ex tranny... dizzy is a y8 housing with z6 internals its got z6 intake manifold fuel rail and injectors with y8 exhaust manifold/downpipe... running a p28 ecu (chipped with stock p28 map)... everything is 0bd1... was hoping someone has been here already and can share some light on the matter... all sensors are plugged in... any help greatly appreciated...
Have you tried clearing the codes to see if they come back? Do you have access to another distributor? If so try any 92-95 non Z6 distributor and see if it clears code 9.
Check the connector on the temp sensor. The wires break inside the insulation near the plug. My Honda dealer parts guy helped me rebuild the plug (disassemble/reassemble the plug with new blade contacts to crimp on the wire). The plug has a rubber circle pressed in it you have to pry out with a tiny screwdriver to let all the parts come out. They had the blade connectors in stock. The dealers are pretty good about stocking little parts like that (nuts, bolts, o-rings etc.) and prices are suprisingly reasonable. Plus there's hardly anyone in there when I go.
Aside from that maybe the B harness on a D engine is giving you issues.
