Default injen cold air extension

anyone know if the injen cold air extension pipe (if you have the short-ram tube intake, it attaches to it to make it a cold air intake) will fit onto a K&N Typhoon short-ram? have a home depot ventilation tube zip-tied in there right now, but it's not doing much w/o a full enclosure on the filter.

i just emailed injen because i was considering the same thing, but a different short ram intake. they said the piping is 3" in diameter. i'm sure it would fit with little or no modification. i ordered the dc sports one though because it was cheaper.

thanks, altho besides the diameter, my other concern was the bends in the extension pipe. i have a d16y7(where the throttle body points up) and after curving off the throttle body, the intake is straight and points toward the right fender. would you happen to know if the extension pipe has 2 bends in it? one that bends from the filter to point up, and one bend to return to (appox)horizontal to meet the short-ram intake?

i'm not sure about the bends in the extension. i also have the mighty d16y7. va-room! when i get my dc cold air extension i'll let you know how many swear words i had to use to get it on my intake.

edit: i would imagine that a short ram intake for a d16y8 would place the filter in a similar location as ours. i'm pretty positive it's going to work. if not, i do have a hack saw and home depot to see me through the install.

i got the dc extension from options auto salon. it was 49.00, 57 shipped. i just got it today, so i'll probably install it when i get home from work tonite if i don't resort to being lazy and drinking newcastle. it's shaped a lot different than i expected. i'll let you know about the fitment and the cuss word coeficient.

edit: it does have those two bends like you described. i imagined it would route more like the aem cai, where you have to drill out that hole where the resonator sat...

i looked at optionsautosalon.com (seemed logical) but only saw the dc extenion for the d16y8. maybe you got the last one or something. they do have the injen one for $58 so that beats nopi! thanks for finding this place! lemme know how it all goes...

i got the one for the d16y8. i did a half *** open the hood and mess around scratching my head routine last night with that extension. it looks like it routes down in front of the tranny mount, then turns into that all american cai fender area. personally, i'm not too impressed with this solution. it seems the filter is going to be pretty damn close to the edge of that splash gaurd toward the inside of the engine bay. of course, i just took the filter off and just loosely put it in just to see how it would route. my friend just got a digital camera yesterday, so i will photograph my endeavors. i think i'm going to wait until saturday to muck with it though. i'll keep you posted.
a second note on the dc piece, it seems the finish is terribly sensitive. my hands transferred some oil from my filter onto the piping that seems impossible to thoroughly remove. also, i was being fairly gentle with it and i noticed some light scratches on it now from test fitting it. i give that the ca ca salute.

i installed that dc sports extension yesterday. i had to cut it in the middle so i could turn the bottom bend closer into my fender. it worked well. i used a rubber pvc pipe coupler to re-connect it. i took pictures with a point-n-shoot film camera as i went, but i should be able to use a digital camera soon, if you would like pictures.
i noticed quite a difference. the throttle seems a little more responsive around town, but more so on the highway, especially mid to high range rpm. the effect might be accelerated due to the cool fall weather here, though. i like the sound better too. it's less noisy, but when i get on it, it sounds better than the short one did.
all in all, i think you could probably just get mandrel-bent exhaust piping from jc-whitney, a hack saw, pvc pipe couplers, and some ceramic engine paint to make it pretty for a lot less money. i sort of wish i would've just done that. oh well.

i think i'd run into trouble trying to get the right bends and lengths from jcwhitney, and one of the bends i think i'd need is already $20, so i'll probably try the injen extension. if this thread is still active when i get it, i'll let you know how it went. thanks for all your help
