Default wanna buy a chipped ecu for my d16y8

Ok so I found one on eBay a obd1 p28 chipped ecu with 2 step launch control and cel shifting light. Vtec kicks in at 4800 and the rev limiter Is like at 9. They are asking 300 for it. I was wondering if anyone has had one? Is It a good buy or not worth it? Also, how does a rev limiter not blow your engine?.....If stock redline is like 7500rpm?

$300 is $100 more than I would pay for a chipped OBD1 ECU. Considering that it probably isn't a real P28. It's probably an equivalent P06. Plus the map they put on there is just a base map that I would not expect any power or fuel economy gains from. If you buy /run a chipped ECU. You will need to have your car tuned in order to make use of it.

My question is why do you wanna buy a chipped ECU, do you have a built engine or a swap that would require a tuned engine management system (chipped ECU)? If you have a stock D16 with bolt-ons you should not spend $300 on an ebay chipped ECU.

As for the red line question,
If your stock red line is 7500 and the person programming the chip has it set to 9k. 1. He's an idiot and 2. If you have not built your engine to rev to 9k you will be likely to blow it up by revving that high. A rev limiter is supposed to be set below the point at which the engine has been tested and designed to operate. Therefor, if your engine is only designed to operate below 7500 RPM your Rev limit will probably be set just above that. It will cut fuel and ignition to keep you from blowing up your engine if you trigger it.

All this stuff that they put on their EBay descriptions is just to hook the people who think a 9k rev limit is cool. Also having VTEC kick in at 4800 is only good if that's where your VTEC is designed to operate. Honestly, These are all just bait lines for people who don't know any better! What good is a 2 step if it's not set properly, same with a shift light???? These are options that work best when dialed in on a track or dyno.

Ok, well I'm just in high-school still and I want to be able to have launch control and vtec kick in sooner. So I was thinking maybe a chipped ecu would work. But is it worth It? or better not do it, and do an all motor build? But I have an all stock engine, and dont have money to turbo it....and don't really want to. But I am trying to figure out some ways it can be a little quicker then it is right now? I can pull the engine if needed and bore it...and but my question would be then how much am I looking to spend on parts if I was to do a all motor build? How much can whp can I get away with If I was to do a inexpensive(under 2000$ it thats possible) motor build

Contact Chris at Xenocron.com, he'll help you out. Ebay **** is garbage!

A budget of $2000 will not get you anything special. Save it up until you have enough to do a real Build!

Under 2k to spend? Wet shot ~35hp nitrous setup and an ECU chipped/tuned for it

Stock motor with a chipped ecu does not benefit you at all. You'll probably lose power.

They're just saying boost is the easiest way to be fast.

A tune can vary from shop to shop. I would say somewhere around $400-$500 at most shops depending how much time it takes.

K, well thanks for clarifying for me. But can I run boost on a stock engine? Or should I build the bottom end first?

The answer is yes you can turbo a stock motor. It's been done plenty of times. Your key to making good power is Tuning!
