Better filtration, IIRC.

A bigger filter allows for better flow of oil and will generally keep the oil cleaner. However, the larger filter alters the oil pressure by a few psi...

Unless your D17 is running boost, or has aftermarket internals with higher compression, it would be entirely unnecessary.

I use s2k filters, but I also use royal purple which most consider entirely unnecessary for an almost stock honda engine.

I drive my car HARD and that's why I prefer a high quality filter and oil. I waste a massive amount of money on my car, I might as well put some of that towards a somewhat useful purpose.

The larger filter on our cars will cause oil pressure to be a tiny bit higher due to less pressure drop across the filter.

Anyone remember when early 90's Honda filters were the size of s2k ones? Now Honda recommends the small filter for everything (except s2k) including the old civics. I guess Honda considers the change in oil pressure to be insignificant?

I started using my s2k filters on my civic so I wouldn't have to stock up on two different sizes of oil filters. Actually the wix s2k filter is cheaper than the tiny civic size filter
