I know there is a FAQ about storing your car, but I want some personal opinions and/or input. I just bought my car about 4 weeks ago, IMO it's in really great shape for its age, very minimal rust, looks very well undercoated and taken care of, I want to keep this car for a long time as a car that I can work on and learn and customize it the way I want. My father is saying that it will cost too much to store it for the winter. ie. cost a lot to get it back on the road in the spring.
I really dont want to drive it in the snow/slush/salt its the first car I've owned and I want to keep it in the shape its in. I was thinking, store the car for the winter, buy an $800 winter beater and then sell it in the spring when I bring my civic out of storage. Just wondering what you guys think and what experience you have had with storing your cars. Is it worth it?

 

why dont you store it and put fuel stabilizer into it but just go and fire it up once a week and you'll be fine... change oil after u take it back out in the spring and you should be good as long as you dont let everything dry off

 

It won't cost anything to get back on the road. As said above, just add some stabilizer and you should be good.

I store mine every year with little to no gas... all i do is put mouse traps and drier sheets in the car and add a little stabalizer... and as said above change the oil when you get it out... but thats just me.

 

I store my car most of the year. Make sure there's a full tank of gas in it and get the tires off the ground (jack stands). Go out and run it every so often and actually drive it when you can.

A battery maintainer is a great investment as well.

Oh, and I prefer to have a daily driver ("beater") all year. That way you don't have to bring your nice car to sketchy parts of town or drive through construction or even drive it in the rain.

I have a '98 Civic EX coupe that stays in the garage. It's been like that for three years or so now. I daily drive an '88 CRX that I picked up for $1800. 163k miles and totally stock (plus it gets better gas mileage than my swapped Civic).

also leave your car on jacks so the tires don't get bad and ur coils

I don't know about if you're not opening and closing the garage or if you don't have another car using the garage, but there's been another car started and driven out of the garage mine stayed in and it makes your car get VERY dusty.

If you don't put a cover on it, DON'T touch the paint until it's time to wash the car.
