I been on this diff for 2 seasons almost. It is a oem lsd gsr tranny. When i turn the car to the right or left really hard it just wants to kick the wheels back to going straight. it gets really hard to turn when u are going either left or right.
Could this be cause the diff is bad? What could be the problem?

o forgot to add when i jack it up and turn the wheels both wheels still turn.

 

Sometimes the OEM viscous LSDs will overheat and essentially turn into a spool. At that point it needs to be replaced. The bad thing is the GS-R/SiR-G trannys with an OEM LSD have a different bolt pattern for the ring gear so you have to swap out the final drive if you want to run an aftermarket or OEM Type R LSD.

They also break at the neck internally and have a variety of issues. Good excuse to get a final drive along with your new LSD!

 

if i change out lsd and ring gear do i have to change out the final drive also to match it?

The ring gear is part of the final drive. When you hear final drive set it means ring gear and countershaft

So if you swap out the factory LSD for an aftermarket LSD..you will need to get a matching final drive set to go with the new LSD.

Yes, but you'll need the matching countershaft as well (ie the one out of the same transmission you're getting the ring gear from)

 

Just snapped a few pics of a broken factory viscous type LSD from a JDM GSR we swapped out for a Quaife with a Gear-X 4.7 Final Drive yesterday. This breakage is typical...have seen about 5 of them this year.

 

ah ic! could u explain more on it turning into a spool? just curious about it, Ill post pics of mine up whenever i get it pulled out.
I think that part might be broken also it sounds like the axles pops in and out whenever i turn too.

ive seen a few lsd's break right there before, they suck. i hate how the ring gear is built into the lsd

tore mine apart. yesterday come to find all the gears in it all had missing teeth.
do they sell rebuild kits for these?
I also just purchased a quaife ill be installing.
