So I have a stock 90 crx dx d15b2 and the stock tranny went so I picked up another L3, turned out to be an 88 tranny with a 21 spline shaft. I went and got a 200mm clutch disc but kept the 212mm flywheel, the disc is installed correctly and after I bolted everything up and tried to test drive it I can't put it into gear with the car started. Shut the car off and it goes into gear fine, so I started it in 1st gear and it leaped forward.

I'm trying to figure out if there's anything I can do other than buying a new flywheel, I'm pretty sure it's adjusted all the way up and it still won't disengage. I didn't think 2mm was a big enough difference to cause this, or is there something else I'm missing here..

Did you make sure when you put the clutch in the springs were facing out?

I'v put a clutch in with the springs toward the flywheel and it did the same thing. Believe it or not, I actually put the clutch in backwards and it was doing the same things yours did. Pulled it back apart and flipped it, worked great. I hope this is not the case for you, but it sounds like it is if the clutch is adjusted out properly.

 

Well luckily the clutch disc had a label that said pressure plate side so it should be installed the right way, I'll have to double check but thanks. I'm just hoping I don't have to go out and get a new PP or flywheel.

 

all the clutch setup is diff for 88 than 89-91 you need to get the clutch setup for the 90 flywheel

 

I have the clutch setup for 90 but I had to put in an 88 clutch because the trans I swapped in is an 88 with 21 splines. Just looking for a definitive answer on what else I would need, but if I can't get an answer I'll have to try it with the clutch the other way like dephtone said. I put the 88 clutch in the same way as the 90 clutch came out, idk maybe 88's were different like that as well...
