b18c1 head on b18b1
this is how i want my build to go fill me in on what i need and if it would work. i have a 93 civic coupe EX chasi code EJ1 i want to swab the NON-Vtec head off the b18b1 with a Vtec head from a b18c1 (or any other vtec heads that will fit). what do i need for the ecu? will i need new engine mounts? and what exactly will i need to swap heads? I know its been done before I'm trying to see what i need exactly and to get all my questions answers.
Do a quick search. This is a VERY common swap and it's been done a million times. You can find the correct threads for yourself as quickly as I can find them for you. Please do some reading and come back with more specific questions.
i dont really have specific questions. I would just like to know if the heads fit and i read id need a oil conversion kit and if i need engine mounts for the engine to fit in my civic or if i can just take them off of my D16. and where/ how to update the ecu to read the vtec head and if i need one for the new engine period
There's a really good writeup on this forum of everything you need to do to build the conversion safely. I know you can find it if you Google search and it will answer most if not all of your questions. If you have leftover questions ask them here
Cliff notes:
1. VTEC head (B18C1, B16 and B18C5 are similar)
2. B18C water pump
3. B18C timing belt
4. VTEC head studs
5. VTEC conversion kit with gasket, oil line, and dowel pins
6. VTEC ECU
7. VTEC subharness for the ECU, unless you wanna hardwire it yourself
8. Machining the head possibly
9. Tuning with Hondata or such, but that can wait tho
Lastly, does the car already have a B18B in it?

another thing to take into considertion is are you going to use the stock gsr intake manifold? if so you make want to get a p72 ecu or an ecu that has a conversion for the secondary buttliflys in the gsr head.
b16 dohc vtec heads are also swappable. there are alot of lsvtec write ups on the forum.

no the engine in now is the d16z6. i have a complete b18b1 just missing distributor, starter, throttle body, and tranny. i have a b16a head that i want to put on it but i read the thread and i dont know exsactly how to do it with the b18 with the b16 head. all the other numbers it in through me off so idk if the thread is for the b20 or both if there is no difference in doing the ls/vtec swap

so the b18c5 ect is all the same as the b16 head? and what machining has to be done to the head? ive read the form and so far all i could find is taping the hole for the allen wrench plug larger for the oil. its a fairly new head im working on loosing the rocker arms up though because one set of them would move as freely as the other. i would just like to know if my ecu would need to be chipped or have to get a new one and i have the b16a intake mani on the head. and while machining should i smooth our the exhaust port?
