Just a couple questions about replacing it.

1. I got a compressor from Orielly's, should it have the proper amount of oil already? If not I need to measure the amount in the old compressor and put the same into the new one...yes?

2. After replacing the compressor I should replace the reciever/dryer and expansion valve. How do I get to the dryer.

3. Should I put oil in the dryer?

4. After replacing all 3 parts I should take it to a shop to have it evacuated, vacuum sealed, and recharged (although I'm pretty sure I can recharge it) ...correct? How much would this cost?

 

Give some background on why you are replacing the compressor.

When compressors fail, they often produce metal shavings that circulate through the A/C system. This metal must be thoroughly flushed out prior to installing the new compressor and recharging the system. Note that flushing removes all the oil from the system.





Yes. Also consider replacing the expansion valve. See first diagram for location of receiver dryer.

Unless you have a manifold gauge set and a good vacuum pump and have a way to add the proper weight of refrigerant, leave this job to the professionals. Call some local reputable shops to get price quotes.

 

I know how to change the expansion valve. The honda repair manual tells me how to get to it. It's prolly got metal shaving in it. From what I heard the compressor went kaputz on the highway pretty catastrophically. I just bought the car with that being the only thing wrong with it for 1500. I'm trying to figure out how to get to the dryer. I know where it is. But am I gonna have to take off the bumper?

I've figured out from there what I'll need to do. Correct me if i'm wrong

1. Empty r134a
2. take off compressor
3. flush system (I have an air compressor and I can use the can from Oriellys, yes?
4. put correct amount of oil in/replace compressor
5. put correct amount of oil in/replace dryer and expansion valve
6. take to shop for vacuum seal and recharge

found this... most useful info I've found in a whole minute. I'm now pretty confident in what I'm doing. Everything else I've found has been spotty... but this cleared a lot up

The only question I have left is... Will I need to re-oil the condenser and evaporator too? Or can I just add it to the compressor and it'll cycle it through?

i think you can just add this^ oil to the low side during the refrigerant recharge.

 

Ok by "this^" What do you mean? Are you talking about the r134a that has oil in it?

 

The oil for the evaporator and condenser.
