Default 1997 Honda Accord SE ABS?

I have a 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition. I noticed in my engine bay I am missing the ABS unit itself. Yet today as I was cleaning my car I noticed underneath my passengers seat I have an ABS control unit but nothing else of the ABS system. My car is the SE and it is not supposed to have ABS but my concern is why do I have an ABS control unit and why is it under my passenger's seat? I know the EX Accords have ABS control units near the firewall somewhere.

I doubt Honda would change the location of the ABS control unit just because of sub model changes. Under the P seat? I thought there was a box under there for power locks and windows or something to that effect.

What makes you think its the control for the ABS? FWIW there are plastics called ABS and components made with this plastic often have 'ABS' cast into the plastic.

Yeah I know of plastics having ABS printed on them but this just seemed much different from other ABS printings I have seen. Besides the EX's have nothing underneath the passenger seat. I will try and unplug the box and see what happens.

SE models were fully loaded. ABS may or may not have been an option, but I'd venture to say it was standard on the SE. Anyhow the ABS ECU is NOT located under the seat on this MY. The module you are seeing is for the keyless entry (standard on SE's) and may have been an option on EX's.

Ok, got it thanks for the clarification. Well I am missing the ABS module where it should be in the right front of the car. Now I doubt the person would take out just the module because if it were taken out the ABS light would be on but it isn't and it doesn't turn on even when I turn the engine on. So to make the light not turn on would another ecu need to be inside the car or what exactly would have to happen? I just want to find out if I am missing all parts of ABS completely or if I do indeed have some.

If you pull the bulb from the cluster....no light.

Do you have drums or discs in the rear for brakes? If you have drums you most certainly did not have ABS.

*edit*

In addition to that, KBB does not have ABS listed as standard for your car either. I didn't think the SE came with ABS personally. It was just an LX with some upgrades.

I have drums in the back. So as it seems I have no ABS. Oh well thanks for the help. Looks like my difficulty setting for driving is "Pro" no traction control or ABS

Well I just noticed that my ABS light turns on when the key is in the "ON" position. This is normal even if my car is not equipped with ABS correct?

No. The ABS symbol should not even have a bulb behind it if you have no ABS.

Well there is a bulb behind there and it even lights up. Anyone else here have a Special Edition CD7 that would like to shed some light on this situation?

You don't have an orange abs pump in the front right (driver's side) part of the engine bay? But have an ABS light in the cluster?

I'm wondering if someone swapped clusters on you or something....

Strange? Muffinman's right though. If you don't have disc's in back, you don't have ABS. My 95 LX does have ABS (4wl disc brakes) but honestly it's a more of a pain than it's worth. I'm always getting that freaking light. Be happy you don't have it. I might remove the bulb in my cluster! Sick of messing with wheel sensors.
