Default Popping out of 4th, gsr, cuff, solids, gforce

I just got a shop car back together about 250 miles ago, haven't even got to stand on 4th yet. Everything has been great until tonight, I was cruising in 4th being easy on it, pops out of 4th, try to put it back it, pops right back out. If your real easy on the gas it will stay in 4th for longer. As soon as you accel, pops out.

The only upgrades it got related to this issue I can think of is solid mounts, a g force shifter, and handcuff.

The gsr trans was my best trans, used it in the past, always shifted like butter. It has had a mfactory diff in for 500 or so miles.

The g force is letting it go all the way in. 2nd and reverse click in just fine as well. I love the shifter, one of the best things I have ever done to the car.

I didn't install the cuff, a master tech of ours did, he's done a ton of trans work for us, including cuffs.

If I could get some opinions, ideas or help I would be very grateful.

I don't think its the shifters adjustment, I've backed out the stops. I could swap back to a stock linkage to test before pulling the trans.

Thank you for your time,
Dk

Its definatly not the mounts because that is required when using that g-force shifter. I wonder if it is something internally? Everything worked fine before the cuff was installed?

Wouldnt that affect all gears though? not just 4th?

Dk, you may want to go back to stock linkages and see if it still does it like you said. That would eliminate alot of guesswork.

I would think length too daniel, then again, wouldn't that effect 2nd and rev as well??? ..sounds like something isn't holding.

rear crossmember flexing at a certain time causing this isse

you can have solid mounts to stabilize it all but if what the mounts are attached to are flexing causing them to rock well

just a though man

we had one setup where it worked fine in 2nd and 4th gear but was all screwed up getting into reverse, was the length of the linkage

also, depending on what transmission mount you are running some of the bolt holes on those are oblong -- so even though it is solid, etc each time the transmission goes in/out of the car it can change the positioning of the transmission slightly thus messing with the linkage length

I know someone having a similar issue. It def seems like a length issue.

just so you dont write off he idea, i recently had an issue of 2nd popping out. i thought it was linkage or transmission position as well.

turns out it was worn shifter forks.

the detent ball put in some work.

i blame it on sitting in the garage for 8 months pretending to make passes and rowing the gears. haha

I had three thoughts. G-Force shifter length, detent ball issue or possibly the 4th gear spring ring. I would think the length would affect all 2,4,R gears, but I have not had any experience with that shifter setup, so I can't give a valid opinion. What I have seen is a worn ring break or become squared on the edges and cause this type of issue. The other is the detent ball/spring like welfarepc showed.

back from the dead, did you ever confirm it was shifter length?
