Default Replacing Rack and Pinion, who should i go with?

well im replacing the rack and pinion on my 95 del sol S model and this will be the first serious part ive ever had to replace on any of my cars (besides a engine).
i dont got the cash to buy a oem honda one so the choices are auto zone or ebay.

ive heard auto zone ones leak but i dont have P/S and ebay i just got to watch out for what i buy.

so guys which one do you think i should buy from?

Out of the 2, I would go with autozone. For the only reason is, if you have any issues you can take it back, and bitch. With ebay, you can't do that.

Why are you replacing the rack? What's wrong with it?

well today for some odd reason it felt like i could keep on turning and turning the wheel so i pulled over turned the wheel all the way right and saw my boots where bad on the driver side and passenger side...it just didnt feel right and the car has over 220k miles on it and its all stock. so i think it would just be easier to put a brand new rack and pinion.

when you turn your steering wheel how many rotations can you do, i can almost do 2, so idk if thats normal

The rotation sounds normal. If the steering rack boots are torn and there's no fluid leak, just replace the boots. If the steering seems loose, check the tie rods and front suspension.

I agree with ron!

I have 210k on my civic, my steering is perfect.

SlickC95,

Out of those two choices I would advise keeping your peepers pealed for a nice kit to show up on eBay. If you are strapped for time and wish to repair your rack and pinion on your Del Sol in a timely manner than I suppose that Auto Zone would suffice. I have heard negative things regarding the leaks as well though so this prospect may be a bit of a gamble..

Have you checked the prices for the parts at Autozone? While I'm sure that they're cheaper than OEM parts sometimes eBay will have OEM parts listings spring up. Additionally, I seem to recall hondapartsnow.com selling the OEM pinion steering part for about $64. I don't know what your budget constraints are but this may be a viable option as well.

Regardless of which route you choose to go down, I wish you the best of luck
