Default all are d-series engines and d -series transmissions compatible?

i just spoke to a sales person and he told me that the d15b non-vtec engine he has in stock will not fit the an automatic D series transmission BUT it will fit a D series manual transmission... ? weird... i thought the same series engines will fit their counterpart transmissions automatic or manual...

all d series tranny bolt patterns are the same except the integra d16a1/3 and the 84-87 d15a1/3s. only thing you have to watch is the clutch setup. 92-00 is hydro clutch 88-91 is cable.
