Default Transmission issue

alright so a little info about my car.
I have a 98 hatch that I recently got started running.
went from auto y7 to h22a 5 speed.
First time I took it down the road it ran just fine.
later that day I took it out and got on it just a little to hear vtec hahaha.
then this clunking sound happened. I guess it is described as a bearing from what I'm reading.
It only happens when the car is in gear. Nothing to do with the clutch I can cruise in 5th gear doing 40 and hear it going crazy, pull it out and coast hear nothing.
then I gave a friend a ride to show him what it sounded like and I went to put it in second from like 5k and slid into 2nd but it just revved so I idled into the parking lot but it started jerking and then completely stopped because of it. We tried to push by hand while in neutral and it was almost impossible like it was going in/out of gear, at one point we pushed it and it felt like hitting a brick wall it bounced and rolled backwards.
What in the world could cause this?

Not actually being there to look at it that sounds an awful lot like a blown diff.

Find a friend/family memeber with AAA and tow it home.

Remove the inspection plate and have a look while turning the crank by hand.

Drain the oil and examine for chunks.

Jack a wheel off the ground and turn it and see what happens.

Pull an axle and look in with a mirror/light.

Investigate.

Don't jump to conclusions.

I've seen people replace a trans only to find the wheel hub splines were stripped.
