93 Civic - Drum brake job question
First off, i already consulted the brake forum, with no responses so in posting in here since it relates to my car.
i have a 93 civic sedan, im looking at doing a whole brake job and ive never replaced brake drums. I need to know what i need to replace in the assembly, do i need to buy a whole new drum and/or cylinder, or just replace the internals of it? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

You may not know what parts need to be replaced until you pull the drum off. If the drum is severely worn or scored, it may need to be replaced. If wear is modest, then turning the drum may be all that is needed.
You probably should replace the brake pads.
The wheel cylinder only would need to be replaced if you see signs of a fluid leak.
Post pictures if you need more help on making decisions.

i havent had my car a for a few days since ive been using my truck, parents ended up taking the civic to les schwab to get the free brake check. looks like im going to need front pads and rotors, rear drums, drum kit and shoes. with that comes a couple new questions.
I wont have my car till this weekend, looking to buy the parts today, but autozone says theres 2 different drum sizes (7 3/32 x 1 3/16" and 7 7/8 x 1 3/8") im not sure which one i need and id rather not wait to buy them, anyone know which one i will need?
Also, autozone only has front rotors for coupes, will those work on a sedan?

as far as I know----all rotors were the same on civics 92-00...
also, assuming your going to do the work yourself...Id pull the tires off and have a look at the brakes yourself.
when brakes go bad...they squeal, shake, and dont stop as good.
If you need rotors...youll be getting a shake or vibration...
if you need pads, youll know instantly...just by looking at them.
To get your drums off....get a 8mm bolt....thread it into the drum....it will push the drum off the wheel.. might need a whack or two with a rubber mallet.
Look at them. I had over 200k on a set of rear drum shoes and they werent even at 50%...(lot of highway though)
Those free brake checks almost ALWAYS come back as you needing a FULL brake job---
that doesnt necessary mean you do.
Look at it....decide what you got to buy...then purchase.

Oh and as far as drums go...DONT GET THE CHEAPEST ...unless you want them to warp in 8 months.
Actually for pads/rotors/drums....pay for the better stuff...and do the job once.
Cheap rotors/cheap drums - warp in 6 months...
and cheap pads squeal.
Get a good set of rotors, a set of ceramic pads....a Good set of shoes/drums.
That or buy the cheap ones, and re do the work in 6 months...
Cheaper to just buy the good stuff

thanks redmturbo, unfortunately i am still learning about cars, brakes was one thing i dont know yet. i stopped at my parents before work, the front pads are almost at metal :/, but the rotors look fine (just money to a set of ceramics, couldnt afford before since im on budget).
The drums make some noise, so i figure im just going to get the drum, shoes and the kit, then whatever i dont end up using i'll just take back to the auto store, wont hurt me none.
And thanks to helping me understand all this.
