Icon2 90 Civic Si: Low idle, & dying at stop lights

I use this forum a lot to get fix-it info on my Honda, thanks for the great tips.

I recently changed the main relay and its been running like a charm up until now. About two weeks ago a quiet wining sound has started from the engine. I knew something was up, but it kept rolling. The last week it has been idling super low and dies at stop lights. Although the car is hot, it starts right up again and keeps going until I hit a stop light. If I give it a little gas, it won't die. Since it is hot I believe the main relay is still good. Any ideas, I'm lost. Thanks.

Tune-up, idle setting, vacuum leak, alternator, ect... ect... Do some checking you haven't really described a solid problem to promote a solid solution.

Idle adjustment screw may need a tweak, throttle body may need to be cleaned out or

Bad O2 sensor
Dirty IACV - Clean
Dirty Fast idle - Clean

Great, thanks for the tips! I plan on keeping it as long as I can. Bought it new in 1990, and its been the best car I could have hoped for.

damn my dohc zc idles super low too and will die from time to time at a light or any stop. well, if im going like 40 and have to stop at a light. if I put it in neutral and try to coast itll usually die right as im about to stop. becuase the rpms are at like 3k and when i try to coast the rpm drops really low, stay there and itll die. So I have to slow down while in gear and downshift while putting my heel on the gas a tad while braking.. Its getting annoying and I need to fuigure it out

If I figure it out I'll let you know. I drove it most of the day yesterday in the city in 90 degree F weather and it never happened. I suspect the fuel pump is going bad.

It could be your ignitor going out. That was happening to me then one day it would just not start.

if you hear a whining sound then its probibly a vacuum leak...get a can of carb cleaner and spray suspected area and pinpoint the leak..

88crxguy..could be your tps going bad..try wigling the wires and see if it makes it act up,also unplug it and plug it back in.might just be dirty.who knows..mine would do a similar thing b4 the rings blew

vacuum leak would be a high then bouncy idle not low near dieing.
