Default clutch problem: fluid or springs?

ok, so i just read about two dozen old posts on clutch problems and i guess i have something very common. it's a 94gsr. replaced stock(destroyed at track) with ACT HD SS roughly 4yrs ago.

symptoms:
very hard to get into gear(all), especially when cold
after it warms up it's better, almost normal, but moderate difficulty comes and goes
initial pedal free play is now huge, like 6 inches instead of one
seems like (but not sure) clutch engages sooner when releasing pedal
overall pedal feel has not as much pressure, not as hard to depress

all this happened overnight - it seemed perfectly fine then the next day: problem
opened the reservoir and it was way low, like 1/2 inch below the floater (which wasn't floating, duh).

should i try bleeding (and more bleeding) and MTL or something or does the pedal symptoms indicate it's much worse than that?

Do you see fluid on the carpet under the clutch pedal?

First thing to do would be to refill the fluid. You should be able to drive like normal after that...see how long it lasts.

oh yeah...

i don't see any fluid whatsoever for two days.
wait, i meant under the car. i'll have to check under the pedal.

topped off fluid and it had zero effect on symptoms.

did you bleed the clutch system when you toped off?
It's not like topping off with oil. You have to get all the air out of the system.

edit: just reread your post.
First, check if clutch master cylinder is leaking. under clutch pedal as stated above.
Next, check if clutch slave cylinder is working. Have someone step on clutch while you're under the hood. Slave cylinder is mounted on tranny left of exhaust manifold. When clutch is depressed, slave cylinder will push the fork a few centimeters.
