Default clutch problem....

hey whats up guys? well here is my problem. I get in my car today and my clutch doesnt feel right. usually it catches pretty high requires descent pressure to press down. so i get in and there is no pressure until about 2/3 the way down. it catches about a half inch off the floor now.... something isnt right. does anybody know what the problem is? btw, there is no grinding or gears or anything happening... it just feels real weird. oh yea, (it may just be in my head), but i might be hearing a slight jingle, something metallic, from the front right of the car, right where the clutch is.. can somebody help me out...... i appreciate it.. Thanks in advance

Dude, sounds to me like your clutch slave cyl. is leaking, check down by your clutch pedal to see if you are leaking fluid, when your fluid gets low, it will start to feel different, just the same as you are describing, I only know cuz it's happened to me.

I agree -- sounds like a leak in your clutch release system.

Whenever you lose fluid from the system, the effect is similar to air in your brake lines -- mushy pedal and no brakes! Air is very compressable and does not actuate the clutch like the fluid does -- so where the fluid has leaked out, air has replaced it, and hence your pedal feels soft and there's much less clutch travel.

Get this checked ASAP -- you may lose your release entirely, then good luck shifting.

I would bleed your clutch sys. then if it still happens then replace slave and if it still happens then replace your master and if it still is doing it then it could be real serious about a $400. problem cant member what it was called (I am quoteing a local mechanic that told me this when my slave cyl went bad)

What makes you think this?

I would check (for leaks, then bleed) your release system first before anything else. Only then, if that does not help, should you suspect the clutch itself. With these symptoms, it is far more likely to be the hydraulics.

Plus, it's a lot cheaper and easier to fix the release system than the clutch!
