1997 2.2 accord flooding
it seems as though my accord is flooding. After it sits overnight, when you crank it it tries to start. You can tell that when it finally starts,it's too much fuel. Black smoke out of the exhaust, but when it does start it runs great. I was thinking a leaking injector, but I think it would run poorly. Any ideas?
Agree with the leaking injector idea, but after sitting ALL night, that would be a heck of a leak (car runs fine once started, MPG's are good/decent) for it to sit in the cyl and not evap....just an idea. good luck.
You can't just change the head gasket, you have to machine that head too.
Also, black smoke simply means you have too much fuel which is what you have already figured out. If it runs great and the car hasn't overheated lately it may not be the head gasket. You should take it for a second opinion somewhere else before shelling out money for a head job.

Did you ever figure out if that was the problem with your car, we have one in the shop right now and it does not want to run right.
It is flooding itself out but after replacing computers, injectors, distributor, fuel injector resistor, main relay throttle body, and many other little tricks from a car that I parted out that did not have this issue. It still does not want to start unless you unplug the resistor and then crank it. It will fire up, then you have to plug the resistor back in to make the car run. And you had better be working the throttle so that you can keep it running or it will die from flooding itself out.

I had a bad HG & excellent compression. The plugs were all light tan. Missed badly for the first few seconds after a cold start. A leakdown test was the only way I could find the bad HG.
^ There you go.
Thats only if you do it right and don't misinterpret the information the test is giving you. Garbage in, garbage out is what I've been told many times.
