Q about 'low mileage' JDM motors....
Okay, so I always hear everbody saying that in Japan it's almost impossible/huge hassle to have an older car unless you've got $$$$.
That makes sense, cuz I'm sure they have weird laws....
But how is everybody so sure of 'low mileage' motors when all the time I see articles in various magazines about young ppeople in japan with OLDER cars that beat the sh*t out of them all the time? Drifting, being idiots.....just all sorts of abusive stuff.
I was just wondering about this....it seems to be a contradiction?
It would seem to me that they couldn't afford to own an older car, according to what everybody says about the low mileage JDM motors?

I'd assume by them driving older cars, they MUST have some sort of engine swap with newer motor with less mileage, and have ways of getting 'around' the laws like alot of the calinfornia people do
There's a guy that sells engine clips and most are about 40 - 60k miles and I have seen a few b18c and b16a with about 100+ miles on them. So you never know.
Always riskey, always have the engine checked out before, and not just cleanliness, but compression, and things such as examing the head and intake manifold for carbon build up. Stuff like that. 99% of the time you'll never know the exact milage, however usally under 45K.
BTW, if the shops says the odometer read 30K or whatever, never buy it! They don't use milage in Japan; well of couse.
