Super loud EH9/exhaust ideas?
So guys. I have been driving this car for almost two years. It's a 1995 civic sedan EH9. D16Z6 with a manual transmission. I have not changed the exhaust since I got it. It was running the stock cat to an uninterrupted pipe all the way back to a shitty magnaflow muffler. And no, it's not even the round "fartcan"/tuner style muffler.
This car is F*CKING loud. Like the frequencies from the exhaust vibrate all the way through my floorboards and up my seats. It's ridiculous. I had the crack behind the catalytic converter fixed and new piping put in as well as a new catalytic converter after it cracked and got bent this past winter when there was 3+ inches of snow on the main roads.
Anyhow, my car does not have a resonator. This didn't cross my mind until the other day when I looked under my current shell and saw that with the stock exhaust, it did actually have one. So I am contemplating having a new resonator put in. On top of that, my friend offered to give me a muffler that came off of a stock WRX (not sure which year). I thought it might make the car a bit quieter as well as give it a different sound and look. The muffler actually has twin outlets. So I'm going to try and mock it up to see if it's actually going to be possible to put it on my car. I see how big the mufflers are on systems like the yonaka exhaust and the ws2 exhausts and they look to support the same inlet and outlet orientation.
But then I remembered seeing what I recall was a EDM eg civic brochure, and somewhere in there, a model of the hatchback had a dual tip exhaust. Does anyone know where this is?
And definitively, will a resonator make my car quieter? My local exhaust shop has them for $45 a piece...

I had a whole new midpipe section welded in when mine broke at the cat. The cat is brand new, the piping is brand new, but the muffler is what I got with the car. I'll probably delete the cat and have a resonator put in and a different muffler welded on.
Don't delete the cat, might mess up how the car runs and throw codes. Just get a resonator put in and see how it is first.

you'll want it. even if it didn't throw codes it'll make it raspier then all hell.
you have no need for a resonator unless you really want one.
i have 3 in twin tip muffler on my exhaust works just fine.

I don't know about the brand/quality of the resonator your local shop is selling you, but if you want a BRAND NEW quality piece, I have a Vibrant 2.5" resonator like the one in the link for sale:
http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...roducts_id=291
Keep in mind, the one I am selling is 18", not the standard 12".
PM me if interested, I can get it out to you fast.

What i want is for my car to be quieter. And maybe have a different tone. But you say twim tip exhaust? Elaborate. This i am interested in.
- The resonator will reduce rasping.
- A good ceramic-core catalytic converter will reduce the sound level as well as drone (best choice for reducing sound)
- A high flow metal-core Cat will reduce both as well, but not as much as a ceramic core (so best choice to reducing *some* sound and not affecting performance as much as ceramic)
- Generally high-flow cats are metal core and regular cats are ceramic core.
Muffler wise, you want a muffler that is NOT straight through (= you can hold the muffler and look through it). Usually offset mufflers like the WS2 (you can't see through it) do a much better job at reducing sound.
So, in other words, if I were you I'd make sure I am running a good cat, add a resonator and change the muffler to a chambered/offset kind like a stock OEM one or something like WS2.
Good luck.

If the exhaust vibrates thru the flooring their might be something wrong with the mounting brackets, and if the car still sounds like hell with the resonator installed, the cat or an exhaust leak could be the problem.
uhh see if i can find a pic of it. the only one i have of it sucks. i'll get ya a new one.

not mine. mines a black, lil lower, bigger, and to the left. but it looks almost the same.
then keep a resonator in there. if you get a ws2 btw don't get a universal as they are straight through. as is mine. its a twin tip(accident) vibrant street power.
