Bastard gears in GSR, help with ratios and what to expect
So... get ready, long read.
I recently toasted 4th gear in my stock 99 GSR trans. It has an OBX in it that I installed, so everything else is stock.
I decided to use my little brothers spare 93 LS trans gear set to replace my broken parts with. So we bastard-ized it.
I used the GSR Final drive (4.40 I beleive) on the GSR LSD (OBX), with the GSR main and counter shafts. I changed over the 4th and 5th gear sets from the LS to the GSR shafts. Here's the twist. I took the 3rd gear set from the main shaft only. So the syncros and sleeve from the LS main shaft but using the GSR 3rd on the counter shaft.
Any idea what the 3rd gear ratio will be without counting the teeth. I will count the teeth later tonight but wanted to see if this made sense to anyone. It fits on the trans and they don't bind at all. Just want to get a good understanding before I close it up and slap it on the car.
I kept the GSR final drive and shafts because I have the OBX lsd and didn't want to lose that going to the LS diff and FD.
Thanks guys!!

If the ratio is different you'll shred 3rd. (assuming you can get the case on, if one gear is bigger than than what's supposed to be there it'll spread the shafts at the top ever so slightly and the case wont fit down on the shafts) Even if it's the same chances are it'll whine from having a different wear pattern. Always used matched gear sets.
I believe they're the same, they matched up perfectly when I compared them.
I'll have to double check them tonight to make sure.

Lol you're right. The gears are one tooth different and wouldnt have mated well. Infact it was holding the main shaft up a little bit. So I'll be switching those tonight. So ill have ls 3rd, 4th and 5th and gsr shafts with a GSR final drive.
Alright. Got the gears switched up finally.
Here's how they're setup now. Please tell me I got the correct gears matching this time.
These came from a 92 LS trans, cable I believe S1, or YS1.
Main Counter
3rd- 26 - 33
4th- 29 - 30
5th- 35 - 26 **This is the one in question. Its one tooth bigger than a regular LS 94-01 (25 teeth) so I wanna make sure its correct for a 92 5th gear ratio of 0.742.
Thanks guys!!

Boom, this is what I found. Good to know 5th won't be too insane as the car is a highway race car (street). I don't want a huge gap between 3rd, 4th, and 5th when shifting. But I should have enough power to make up for it either way. Currently makes 530-550whp at 23 psi right now.
I just counted my LS YS1 (which was sold to me as an S1 until i noticed the "Y" was scratched off, coincidentally)
1st gear - Main Shaft (13) - Counter Shaft (42)
2nd gear - Main Shaft (20) - Counter Shaft (38)
3rd gear - Main Shaft (26) - Counter Shaft (33)
4th gear - Main Shaft (30) - Counter Shaft (29)
5th gear - Main Shaft (35) - Counter Shaft (26)
the final drive i counted 64
the difference of the extra teeth on the 5th counter gear probably accounts for the slightly shorter gear ratio compared to the hydro LS 5th gears

'92 - '93 Integras were all YS1, GS-R YS1s had different gear ratios and final drive though. YS1 is the only cable tranny with guts that will work in a hydro tranny.
As for the gear ratio YS1 LS 5th is slightly lower than hydro.

yup, that's what I was reading everywhere. I just needed to confirm the counts to make sure. But all the 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears that I switched have the two lines like an LS set should so I should be good to go.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
alright got another issue.
So i switched up the gears, used the GSR case, gsr shafts, GSR diff and final drive. Only switching 3rd, 4th, and 5th. And I used the 2/3 shift fork form the LS since the selector is a different size than the GSR trans set.
Is this an issue? Are the selector rods different lengths?
We put the trans back in and its stuck in a gear and won't come out now.
Thanks for any help!!!
