Ive noticed that my temp gauge in my dash had been between the half way mark and the cold(blue) mark. Just recently Ive noticed that it has gone up closer to the half mark, and the other day it started to climb closer to the half mark and then the fan kicked on and it dropped a little. Any ideas why there is a fluctuation with the meter?
Kind of sounds normal? I would check the coolant level and BOTH fans should run when it gets warm. If the gauge gets above the middle mark, then worry....3:30 ish on the gauge is normal.......3:00-middle, get worried....2:30~2:00, you've got issues.
Im not positive if both fans are running. I assume so. I was in a drive thru lastnight and it did just that. I put the car in park to order and the meter started climbing to the mid mark. I turned on the air and the meter dropped back to where it originally was.
sounds alright. have you checked your coolant level or noticed any leaks on the ground under your car. also look for the smell of burning coolant. ive had minute holes in intake coolant lines that would drip onto the exhaust and burn off before hitting the ground. resulted in a loss of coolant pressure(my symptoms were overheating at idle-it was an auto so shifting to neutral and revving the engine would make the temp drop when at a red light)
Two things.
1) Jump thermo a on the t-stat (lower hose) with the key on/pos II. Do BOTH fans come on?
2) T-stat could be sticking every now and then. Pretty cheap to throw a new one in? Just be sure to bleed the system when done.

He didnt mean replace the switch. What he meant was unplug the connector on the thermostat n jump it then turn on the switch. Both fans should turn on.
I took a video of what my car is doing but I dont know that I can load it up here. It reminds me of my dads old pick up truck. When I turn the car on the RPM needle will putter its way up to "normal range"
The needle on the temp gauge still climbs in park at times.
The putter will happen on cold starts but even after its been ran within the last hour. For example I drove my car, parked it for about 2hr yesterday and when I got back in the car I started it and when I placed it in reverse, the car actually puttered in reverse and the RPM gauge was also puttering from 0 to 1 to 1 1/2.. STRANGE

Did you replace the t-stat? Did you bleed the air out as well...just to be sure.
Cold stumble-check the FITV just to be sure....I think there is something in the FAQ. Aslo clean the TB-both side of the butterfly and give the two ports to the firewall side behind the butterfly a good spray as well.
Steve-looks like the cooling issue WASN'T solved.......

sounds like a loss off coolant pressure somewhere along the idle valves on one or more of the hoses. when warmed up at idle and it starts to climb in park if you rev the engine does the temp go back down?
if so this happened to my 96 accord. turned out there was i minute hole in the hose that goes from fast idle valve(bottom of throttle body) to idle air control valve(back of intake manifold). it was allowing a very small amount of coolant out of the hose but only when warmed up. it was also allowing air into the coolant system. make sure you bleed the coolant after you make any repairs to any of the coolant system. air is a big no no which means make sure you turn your heat all the way up inside the car on the temp gauge when you are bleeding.
