none of the manuals i find online actually work. anyone know the recommended shift points from the manual?
ive been using ~3k except for 5th gear. i usually try to shift at 2.5k into 5th but by the time i'm in 5th, my rpms are low

well since i made a thread. my 5th gear takes a lot of effort to get into gear. rarely it would grind. is this normal for 5th gears?

 

my 5th gear never experience any kind grinding but 2nd does a lot and i miss shift when i do it really fast so im kinda baby it ever since, so everytime i shift into gears i press the clutch and pull it lightly and wait for it to go in
as for shifting points thingy it depends on my driving when im driving normal i never passed 3k or just exact 3k but when im smashing on it i even redline it specially when im doing canyon run
so its basically depends on how you drive it not everyone drives the same method

 

so on the street, do you cruise in 5th or 4th?

 

yeah i drive 5th on the streets

 

driving today, almost every time i shifted into 5th, it grinds pretty bad.
it wont grind if i shift into 5th at like 3.3k rpm

 

first thing i'd do...change the tranny oil.

then go from there.

i usually shift at 3k rpm. but if im trying to be extra frugal and save gas then
i shift earlier(but that also means im accelerating alot slower -_-)

a possibility of what your problem could be if changing tranny oil doesnt solve it, is that your 5th gear syncro is going out

bottom line change your transmission oil. then come back and tell us what happened ( this is a pet peeve of mine, i hate reading threads and then the thread never gets answered by the OP)

 

i'll get back to you after i change the tranny oil. i wont have time until this weekend but i'll def post back here again.

after driving yesterday, just from reading the fuel guage, amount of gas i put in previously,the difference in mileage, basic math.. i managed to squeeze ~29mpg with 60% local, 40% freeway. thats with me never shifting to 5th on the road unless its a 55mph speed limit.

 

thats pretty good mileage I drive pretty chill most the time, majority street and get ~26-27 mpg.

usually shift around 3000,3500

 

shift point to 5th is 49 MPH for a base RSX (from manual)

 

just thought i'd update this for any future references

i changed the tranny oil today and it fixed everything, even the occasional first gear grind

everything is buttery smooth. thanks guys.
