Only 1 V6 6-speed per dealer per year?
A dealership I e-mailed about reserving an EX V6 6-speed coupe told me that only one of these will be given to each dealership per year. Is this true or is this guy trying to keep me from talking him down. I know some of you guys work at dealerships so see if you can help me out. Thanks a lot!
Thats arguably the biggest lie ive ever heard out of a dealer. There are dealers that have them already. The dealer ive worked for is getting them in a couple weeks. Theres no way its only 1 per dealer per year.
I'm talking about the 6-speed which doesn't come out at all till Feb. I just called a local dealership I've been talking to and they confirmed the same thing. So I can go V6 with 5 speed auto or go 4cyl. w/ 5 speed manual. I really want a manual so I guess 240 hp just isn't gonna happen. Oh well, that's why I have my H22 going in my 90 Accord next week!

So what is the logic that would explain why there would be plenty of 6-speed CL Type S's available and not too many 6-speed Accords? That would be like producing many Ex Civics and making Lx Civics impossible to find. Making the less desirable car harder to get is just plain idiotic. Dealers would mark up the price of a 6-speed V6 Accord if they are truely going to be that rare and then everyone who would originally have been interested in the Accord but lost a bidding war because there is only 1 per dealer would go buy a CL.
Nick- Who thinks this makes absolutely ZERO sense and must be BS.
Yes, you would have to be crazy to believe this one!
Or maybe Honda just likes to spend millions of dollars on development and then make no money actually selling the car!

The second dealership I talked to the guy thought it was sounded crazy too, but asked his general manager and he confirmed it. So, if it's out at some dealerships, where at? I wouldn't mind checking one out and talking to those dealerships about purchasing one. Maybe it's just the sorry state of VA. The first dealer I talked to was in Roanoke, VA and the second was in VA Beach. If you know of any of these dealers please let me know. Thanks.
I just got off teh phone with a really good Honda dealership here in Oklahoma. He said that there will be only 1 accord v6 6spd per allocation not per year
This means that each time they order a batch of cars (typically once per month) they will only get one AV6 6spd.
He said from a marketing prospective they are trying to make it like an S2000, Oddessy, type of high demand car.
This really pisses me off -

They make plenty of 6-speed CLs, which are faster and handle better which arent too far from a loaded 6-speed Accord in price.

Wow......... I don't really know where to start. I work at a Honda dealership in Baltimore so I know the real deal with the V6 6spd accords. Most of what I read is the funniest stuff I have ever heard. Number 1, the comment on the 1 ex v6 6spd per dealer per year is not true........ it is true however that it is 1 per allocation as someone else has already mentioned. Number 2, the comment about some dealers already having the ex v6 6spd is a lie. The only accord available as of this date are the Accord Sedans. The Accord coupes won't come out until mid October and the ex v6 6sps were rumored to be out around Feb. That is the truth. Straight from the memo's from the Honda corporation themselves.

Ok. So there arent coupes at my dealer now? They were actually late, they were supposed to arrive last week and came yesterday.
Anyway the comment about 1 car per allocation makes sense. The dealer ive worked for gets new car deliveries typically 4 times a week. We sell 250 new cars a month and about 100 used cars.
To Rotary Buzz- Can you please explain to me the drastic difference between the CL and 7th gen accord v6 coupe that the market wont be similiar? We get customers ALL THE TIME who have just looked at TLs and CLs that come look at V6 accord sedans and coupes. The same applies to the Pilot and MDX.

Um...did you ever sell cars?
Do you sell cars right now??
So what do those CL/TL people end up buying?
Have you looked at the nationwide CL sales figures that have been falling even since they intro'd the Type-S? There's been no shortage of CL's and there is a reason...it looks like a torpedo. Which comes back to my original question....
would YOU buy a CL instead of the V6 Accord?
Even with the new 6spd option in the CL?
Different buyers...they will migrate elsewhere into different cars in different marques...
From my recollection, integra buyers were torn between the Intergra and the Accord. Or they were upside-down civic owners who wanted a GSR. 3.2 TL buyers were torn between the Volvo S70's and ES300s. New CL wasn't quite out at the time so no recollection. Pilot vs. MDX is probably a fair comparison but those are SUVs....what are SUV owners/buyers looking for in the first place anyway?
so did/do you sell cars? Have you ever been inside the mind of a buyer when it comes right down to it...when the wife is there? the kids? when he's worried about what's in his driveway? please let me know...
and i'll be happy to eat my own words...Edit: no offense intended.

Yes, ive been there, ive been there to help a wife pack up a Pilot full of stuff to see how it all fits and to talk to the Dad as well about what hes looking for. Ive talked with customers about why they got a V6 coupe instead of a Prelude when it was still around.
I do new car prep work. I frequently get to meet the customers both before and after the sale by the nature of how our dealership is layed out.
Okay, I do now the coupes have been looked out to some dealerships, but Honda Corp. themselves stated that the EX V6 6-speed wouldn't be out till Feb. Anyways it appears that if I want a 6-speed I'll be paying nearly 30 grand for one which just isn't an option.
Alright, I'll just stay on the list for the 4 cyl. 5 speed then.

it seems like people aren't too thrilled with the torpedo... 1100 Aug US sales just kinda sucks (compared to the 3.2 TL, an older body design, with 6300 Aug sales).

Reason the CL-S 6 isnt selling well is because for all intents and purposes, its a luxury car. How many relatively wealthy people that pay for luxury, refinment, and exclusivity want to shift their own gears? You see what I'm getting at here? I think Honda produces the CL-S 6 for people like me in 7 years, and not my 58 year-old Business Law professor.
my dealership is supposed to be getting the V6 6speed coupes in febuary. I took a ride in the 4 door 5speedautomatic V6, and it definatly has some good power, and shifts very smooth.
I drove an auto V6 coupe this weekend. Much faster than the 200hp version and the re-calibrated suspension feels pretty good. But it is a big, smooth pseudo-luxury car much like the Legend was. It wont be mistaken for something more raw like one of the honda cars built from 92-01 with raucous 4cyls. It is a different breed.
