Need help Timing a6!
So my timing belt snapped and im hoping for the best but expecting the worse.I Got everything apart and i turned the head to tdc"up" and then i turned the crank to the dash on the timing cover.Did i do that correct? Every thread i found always tells you to mark the old belt and **** but my old belt is in two peices.
just line the marks up, the cam will have marks on the sides and top, i think there is 4 marks on the the crank pulley 3 next to each other one about a inch away, if you are not sure what mark to use pull the spark plug out of the number one and stick a screw driver down to insure you are on tdc
I think that cam timing applies to the ZC. If you have a usdm si (D16A6) the cam timing is different.

Both JDM/EDM and USDM are shown..

Get the head aligned at TDC by aligning the marks on the cam with the top mating surface of the head like the diagram above shows. Get the #1 piston to TDC by rotating the pulley. Once you have the top and the bottom lined up, put the belt on and tension it like the diagram shows.
To check that you are on the right tooth, turn the engine by hand with a wrench on the pulley bolt. Turn it over 4 complete pulley rotations. Check your marks. If it lines up just like it did when first put the belt on, you have the right tooth.
Then get a timing light on it and adjust the timing.

I would trust Mitchell over Alldata any time.
There is a pointer which is on your bottom inside timing cover. You will have to line up that mark with the timing mark that is in the 7 o'clock position on the the cam pulley. Bottom pulley timing mark has to line up with the pointer just above the tensioner bolt on the bottom timing cover.

As for the cam pulley it is the middle circle (4wd) as marked.
For the crank you want to use the white mark. Not the 3 marks.
I just did this awhile ago.
I just used the up mark and the side marks then moved the cam 1 tooth counterclockwise.
I do agree with spinning with a wrench a couple of revolutions and recheck your marks.
