I don't understand those regulations, as a spool and a welded diff do the exact same thing.. but whatever.

welding a normal open diff involves welding the planetary gears inside the diff to the diff housing gear and the driveshaft gear. This image shows approximately what it would look like to weld the diff, versus what it looked like before it was welded. These pictures were found on google and are not mine. in your car, the diff is inside the transmission housing, so its not going to look exactly like these pictures. you will have to crack the transmission open, remove the countershaft, and pull the final drive/ring gear and differential assembly out to weld it. the after picture looks a lot like what it should look like when you are done but before everything is back in the transmission.

i don't understand the regs either. i think it is to keep the cost down? but with allthat could go wrong with welding, i would rather but in spool or lsd.
what about welding it in the diff? thanks for that info

Your wrists will not like you after you drive it. I did a welded diff tranny for a VW rabbit rallycross car. It would try to break your wrists just driving around the shop parking lot. But the owner says its is the fastest thing he has driven on dirt. One thing to keep in mind, when you break an axle (and you will) the car will continue to pull to the side with drive. I watched the car get put into the fence by another driver because it broke an axle and steered off the track.

A reputable source told me to MAKE SURE that the driveshafts are installed when you weld the diff. I'm interested in this procedure as well. In for more info. Good Luck.

I'll tell you this from off road experience.

On a 4wd, most people go with a selectable (either locked or open by flip of a switch) locker in the front, and full locker in the rear. A full locker makes it next to impossible to turn. When people put a full locker in the front for rock crawling, they ussually also put hydraulic ram assist for the steering.

i,m paralized and race with hand controls and one hand on a spinner. pretty diff! this concerns me it would be any harder to steer at speeds. cause hand controls i need to run an automatic unfortunately. does any one know what trans comes with lsd's. auto or manual, models. then i could talk to the tech director about adding lsd cause them came factory. my rules don't allow to put in anything aftermarket. Thanks for all the help. I really wanna smoke the mustangs and nissan 240s. lol doin pretty good. just need alittle more pull

You can always identify the honda trannys w factory lsd by looking through the hole in the trans with both driveshafts removed. There is a complete hole on these models. Models without factory lsd will have a vertical bar going through said hole inside the trans. Sorry no pics. Good luck...

I know older 86-89 Integras have an LSD. People running auto-x with 84-87 Civic/CRX use the 4wd 84-87 Civic blocks so they can bolt up the Integra transmision for the LSD.

Maybe a newer Integra with a B18 would have an LSD also.
