Default Polishing my block...

I snapped a bunch of pics last night, figured I should post a few!

This is the backside, which I am not polishing You can see the dirt and grime embedded in the block. That is after jetwashing and degreasing!

Wow, nice! Is that my block? So how's that going to make the car faster anyway?

I can't believe I had the ***** to call that my block.

It is indeed your block Andrew!!! Thanks again for such the sweet deal on it. That was the only good thing that came out of my motor swap/turbo install, IMPO phucked me baaaad on that deal. Impo can kiss my *** too.

long story short: impo blew my motor 10mins into the turbo install, spun 3 main bearings and chunked the crank. Andrew was swapping in another motor in his '94 vtec, and gave me a killer deal on his h22a1. The block is what i'm using now, impo managed to keep the head(somehow). Either way it was great timing, I owe andrew a few 's!

My car will be fast enough. It's all for the bling factor I guess, I have a lot of free time and love to work on the 'lude!!

Are you going to pull the engine every month to clean it? Kinda pointless unless you never drive the car. IMHO

Thanks for your input, and yes I plan on pulling the motor each month for cleaning.

fyi, a clean block is a happy block. You can see oil much easier, and this is not my daily driver(like it matters anyway).

Ha ha! Good to see she's still going strong! I'm glad the engine is working out for you. It's wierd that the timing of our misfortunes worked out so well...

Thanks, I was just joking, I'm not going to remove the engine to clean, just to fix.

The block had almost 10years of crap built up and burnt in, so I decided to freshen it up a bit. It will_not be a mirror finish shine, that would take forever.

I'm also working on the engine bay, but it's a bit more of a pain to do it. I wonder if I can get my azure blue-green color in a spray bottle? mixing it is so expensive due to the 3 different materials needed. hrmmm...

Thanks for all the compliments. It really is not hard at all. It just takes an air compressor, a die grinder, a few different wire wheels, some sandpaper(for the hard to reach areas inbetween the webbing) and beer, lots of beer. Molson Ice is what has worked best for me so far, although a new oktoberfest bier called "Spaten" has really giving me that added advantage lately.

It's only taken me about a week, because golden eagle had my block for about 4 months . It's tough to put an hourly figure behind it, because I do it here and there while working on other stuff. If I had a larger <and quieter> compressor(which I will soon), I could do it much quicker.

Boosted97- nothing wrong with paint, all the old school domestics did it, so we can too.

qfactor- It really was not much work at all. I don't know if shipping the block to pa and back would be cost effective. I would not charge much if so, maybe $80-100? That would include beer too. I would not want to take on too much, i'm now working with 2 friends on starting a manifold making buisness. The prototypes will be built for h22's too.

Good job cleaning up the block, when i saw it first i thought it was my block because i did the same thing, haha. For mine i used a drill with the tiny wire brush on the end and it polished it up nicely. do not clearcoat it though, leave it as is. The clearcoat will turn shitty over time plus dirt and exhaust gases will turn it black and itll be harder to clean, brake parts cleaner cleans it up nicely and returns it back to the polished look you have going on. I recommend doing the head also since you actually see more of the head then the actual block, at least that is how it is on my set up

Yes, no doubt you'd be first on my list Bri! They will most-likely be equal legnth, not log-style.

h22ninja- It took closer to 10 days, and I did it about about an hour each day, i'd guess about 8-10hrs. If my air tank/motor was larger i'd be able to do it quicker.

D.spec, that's a great idea. I will look for some high temp clear coat and spray it well!

dont clear coat that block, you will not be able to clean it again unless you use water. Simple green, brake parts cleaner, or anything else will strip the clear coat right off. I know this because originally we painted my block polished with 1500degree paint, it lasted fine but it did get dirty and there was nothing i could to do clean it without hurting the paint. If you are gonna clear coat it, you will have to use automotive clear coat to be able to clean the block with an engine cleaning agent.

so what's your thought on painting the block, what would be the problem with that?
