I notice my left one (left when standing in front of the car, facing it, with the hood open), goes on every now and then but the right fan almost never goes on. I dont think ive ever seen it go off. Is this normal? What does the right fan do and are they both suppose to go off at the same time?

 

One is for the air conditioning system, and the other is for the coolant system. Your A/C condenser sits in front of the radiator, and if you're running the A/C... both fans will kick in .

I'd recommend investing some time in to a Helm's Service Manual for your car, if you want to know specific items like those.
