Default water damage

hey, so i drove my 91 honda civic dx hatch into a canal, just nose deep enough to get water in the headlights and crappy canal weeds behind my radiator, is it likely that there is water in the cylinders, or anywhere that if i tries to turn it on it would seize the engine??? please respond quickly need to know if so, so i can get it fixed before i mess up my whole motor

yes thats very possible..change your oil asap but when you drain it leve the cap off so it can dry out just incase, if you had alot of water you would know, youd blow a hole in the block..ive seen it happen..

when i swapped vtec heads on my eg bcuz of a blown head gasket i had a little bit of water on the cyl. we pulled the spark plugs, and pulled the wires, and let compress and push the water out.

flush everything out.
change your coolant, your oil, air intake

if it wasn't running, just check the oil. if the level is right and no signs of water, you can just start it up. worst case, pull the plugs, drain the oil, refill oil and turn it over. when you don't see anything come out of the holes, put the plugs in and start it up. GL

Im sorry but to me that sounds like very bad information.

If you have the chance of your motor hydrolocking, go ahead and take the necessary precautions.

dont just be like, "Ah well there is no water in my oil. (cranks up.............hydrolocks...) Well ****!"

go ahead, and do as previous people stated above...Flush all your fluids out, drain everything, let it dry. pull the plugs, and just let it rotate and push the water out the spark plug tubes.

(btw if i wouldnt have done it that way when i did my mini me swap after a blown HG. my motor would have hydrolocked.....just sayin)

Do listen to everyone and take out the plugs and turn it over until the water comes out (if any).

Best wishes on the venture.

well i tried pulling the sparks and disconnecting the distributor and i turned it over for about 2 minutes, no water came out, so i put the plugs back in re connected the distributor and nothing... any other ideas? no water in the oil or coolant and the timing belt is fine, when i turn it over it turns very quickly and doesnt sound like its trying to start

LOL im with Kingvem on that one. the **** are you doing driving your civic into a ****ing canal. dude u shouldnt have a car doing that ****. brains or no common sense is what your lacking. and lol @ drive it 2 to 3 miles to get the fluids changed. dude do it yourself. your screwed on "going somewhere to have em do it" unless u have someone tow it. its not even the thought of "how are you going to save your car" its more like "the **** were you thinkin......"

Does it sound like its just whining while its turning over? Just pull off the dizzy cap and see if the rotor turns while cranking over and if it does, the belt should be fine unless it skipped some teeth..

Ya then its possible there is no compression. Cuz even if you had low compression, it would still start, but run like ****. Dizzy is the distributor.
Have ur handy dandy bro do a compression and leakdown test.
Have him teach u in the process too

yeah he said its rare that ALL the pistons bend so that theres no comp, and i kinda figured it was the distributor, and how do you do a comp and leakdown test?

Well i highly doubt thats the case, ive never heard of bent pistons (not sayin its NOT possible, thats just not usually the problem). Usually, bent valves, broken rods, spun bearings.

For comp. test, you can rent a compression tester guage at any autozone, better yet, ill just have you read this link cuz im too lazy to type everything out lol: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...t/comptest.php

Also, just for the heck of it, inspect the block to see if there is any holes in it.

you said either the timing belt broke?
well if it aint there when you pulled the car out this canal, then it probably broke and fcuked your motor up.

replace your starter. check your grounds
