New Koni specific Ground Controls have adapter?
I just received my Koni Ground Control setup from thmotorsports and I was always under the impression that the aluminum sleeve was machined perfectly to fit snug around the koni shock and sit on the circlip. The sleeves I got are bigger than the shock and have a black adapter on the bottom that fits around the circlip. So now the sleeve can wobble around at the top like regular sleeves that use rubber orings to help them them stay snug.
I know it not a big deal once the cars weight is on it but just wanted to make sure this is how the ground controls are now.

btw I should say that the box says "Koni" as well as the instructions and the black adapter fits perfectly in the circlip so I guess this is how they do it now but I was curious if they have always been like this because I thought they used to fit the shock tight.
Ill try and take pics but I am about to put them on now.

Never had them before but looking at patrickgsr94's install writup it looks as though the actual sleeve itself has the machined lip and the rest of the sleeve sits snugly around the shock. Also there is no adapter for the top and doesnt look like there would even be a a spot for one since there is no machined groove.
I think that adapter goes on top. I also don't think those are the correct sleeves. Those look like regular sleeves. Those are the same gap that I was just looking at on the hatch I just finished working on.
Did anything else come in the package?

pretty sure that's how they do it now. think it just started this year. one of my autocross buddies had the same set up when they got theirs.
op take a picture of the black adapter on the shock by it self.

the adapter definately goes on the bottom. it fits perfectly on the circlip. i guess this is how they are these days. seems kind of dumb because im sure the older versions were much tigher on the shock but once the weight of the car is pressed on im sure it makes no difference.
also i installed them today so i can not take pics of the adapter.

well they came directly from ground control. thmotorsports stocks the konis but since you can get custom rates they contact ground control and have the springs sent straight from there. the box says its for koni and the adapter fits the circlip so im pretty sure this is how they are doing it now.
where did you get your ground controls from and were they new?

how long ago did you get yours from thmotorsports? this is really confusing because they did work and i dont know why they would fit if they are the wrong sleeves?
so i did a little research and apparently these adapters were used for the koni/gc setup years ago before they made sleeves specifically for the konis. this was about 2004. why the hell they sent me these in 2011 i have no idea. i guess i am going to have to contact thmotorsports or ground control since they sent me the springs. unfortunately i installed them today but if these are not the right part i hope that i can get the real ones and send these back.
I just installed by gc/koni's last week and the gc had no adapter. They fit snug on the koni's and there was no movement. I agree...probably an old set. Btw, I bought the GC's from GC and the Koni's from No Limit.
I called GC directly because I had questions. I paid $375 for the GC's and $475 for the Koni's. Here is a link to NoLimit. They also have deals on GC/Koni combos.

Good luck buddy. I hope it works out. You might not get the results you want. I mean it's probably a correct coilover for the Koni but you bought them from another seller. The seller had some old stock to move so they sent you those.
thats the thing. they came directly from ground control because i got custom spring rates so thmotorsports has them sent directly from ground control.
it seems to drive fine but knowing that there is a better product out there that i paid for i sure would like to have it. having the sleeve tight to the shock and not all wobly seems like a much better design.
guess i will see how i make out tomorrow

Yeah the worst part is knowing you could have had something better for the same price. I am about to order a set and would like to know how this turns out.
