CX/VX Shift Light Swap To EX/Si
I've searched but could not find an answer... Is it possible to swap the shift up light from a 1992-1995 Civic CX/VX to a 1992-1995 Civic EX/Si? Would it just swap over or would it have to modded a little? I was told if I swap it over the cruise control light might light up in place of the shift up light or something... Can anyone please help me figure this out?

What I'm working with:
- 1992 Honda Civic VX, 5-speed, hatchback (has the OEM shift up light)
- 1994 Honda Civic Si, 5-speed, hatchback (does not have the OEM shift up light)
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance everyone!

The gas/temp gauge from vx and ex/si are compatible. The location for the shift up and cruise control light are in the same location.
What are you trying to do?

I'm not sure if anything besides the P05/P07 have circuitry for the upshift light. And assuming it does I'm also not sure you'd be able to have both the upshift light and cruise, I did look into this somewhat before but gave up on the idea.
The shift up and the cruise control board are in the same location in the cluster.
Just run a led bulb behind the shift up and wire it to a aftermarket tach with shift light.
Number 15 is the where the shift up/cruise control board is located.

The gas/gauge is from the Civic 92-95 VX Federal version aka NON-CA. The shift up is control by the ECU. The VX federal version has a lean burn mode with shift up indicator.
Federal version P07-A00 or P07-A01
CA VX ecu code P07-L00 or P07-L01

Please tell us exactly WHAT you are trying to do. You can plug and play the EX gauge cluster into the VX and the cruise bulb will act as your upshift light. Kinda dumb though. There are other things you can do to marry both features into one cluster but i am not going to spend time explaining until I know what it is you're doing.

you cants unless you run a vx ecu, then your Si will run like crap.. its kinda pointless to do something like this, its not "cool" and i would hope you could learn when to shift without a ecu telling u too
Does the shift light change depending on the rpm/gear or is it the same rpm for each gear? (I'm assuming the latter).
Get the CX/VX up shift template and place it in an unused slot in your cluster. Get a MSD RPM activated switch with the correct pill/adjustable pill. Install a light into the cluster socket you have the overlay on. Then wire that light into the MSD switch. Select the rpm the light is set to. If you go this route let me know, I actually have both I purchased and never used

I like NACvicSi's idea.
Hondata will also let you set a shift light, but it works through the CEL.
I just shift by engine speed. My exhausts have never been silent, so I know how they sound about when I should shift.

Below is the CX shift piece mounted on my Si cluster, in my VX. I only did this because I wanted to keep both cruise and the upshift indicator. However, the concept is basically the same as what you're wanting to do. Good luck!

Still no luck getting this mod done. Gonna do more research and get this done on my car soon. Will post up results. If anyone that has done this will post a "how-to" on this, that would be great.
just thought about doing this the other day. figured i would search around. how about the circutry on the ecy? any pics of the ecu its self. i have an Si cluster at the moment, and my original cx cluster, running a stock p28.
from what i read, everything is controlled thought the ecu as well. i can frankenstine and use everything to maintain my cruise light as well as the shift light.
on another note, i would like a tps monitor for runnign economy that way i can see what the ecu is reading for voltage to my TPS. and the same for the O2 sensor.

I think I posted in another thread that you should use a bulb mounted in the cluster (at that top right location as in my photo above) with external wiring patched in to the CX/VX upshift light circuit board (the removeable mini circuit board from orig cluster). This special bulb can be obtained from a cigarette lighter in just about any early to mid-90s Honda. I got one from an 1G Odyssey and it fits the cluster bulb hole perfectly. Note I haven't done this retrofit yet - I just did some planning and research for it.
You will also need the clutch switch from a CX/VX, and fab a bracket to mount it by the clutch, if you have already retrofit Cruise Control.
If you have questions I can explain further.
