sometimes when im driving the car jerks rapidly like its going to shut off. on off on off on off and the rpms freak out up down up dow up down ( slamming not bouncing ). its also hard to start not all the time though...im suspecting the ecu.. after it has its spells it will drive normal.. weird.. has anyone ever had this happen to them or know what it could be? thanks in advance

Do you have another distributor to try?
Do you get a CEL with any codes ever?

If you're sitting parked and rev the engine for a while will it ever do the same thing or does it only do it under a load? if it does it at during both, i would check for fuel problems, if only under a load then more likely ignition.

no codes and it will just do it whenever it feels like it, its done it driving and while in idle before. i think i may have found the problem..i belive that the p.o didnt know how to wire a radio so he hard wired it to the battery, the positive cable to the radio had alot of bare spots where just wire was showing, maybe it was sparking on something?

You would have smelled that. Not to mention, It would have likely burned the car to the ground. It sounds ignition related.

I think most every aftermarket radio has an inline fuse. That would have popped (I hope) if it would have shorted.

how sure are you it could be the dizzy coil ? would that make it do what its doing? also, someone said ignition related, idk if it matters but u have to start the car with a screwdriver, and the ignition switch is just dangling down..could that be it?

I wouldn't think that would have much to do with it, but might wanna take care of it anyway. Kinda sketchy haha. It def. Sounds like a coil problem. Have u taken the dist. Cap off? Check the condition of the rotor, contact ends on cap also. Look for some debris maybe. Has it done it the whole time it's been swapped? Or just recently?

Well it def. Sounds like a coil problem. U can test it, check a manual for how. But I would start by takin the cap off and look for any signs of something goin bad. I've had the copper windings get shredded inside it before and cause silmilar problems.

just an update.. i changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, it runs better but misses slightly at high rpm, im thinking it may be the 2 1/2 year old fuel filter lol but i got one so ill do that later its just too hot in fl right now.. i did notice that inside my ignition switch its ground down to bare metal, so when i start it with a screw driver ( ) i think it may be interupting something..and when i try and crank it i have to give it gas at the ame time or it wont start any idea what that may be?? thanks..

ok so i started the car after about 3 days of it sitting..same old crap, jerking, rpms flinging around ect.. i was told by a buddy of mine it could be the main relay? the tune up helped but it didnt entirely fix it.. if i had hair id rip it out ..still stumped on why it will crank if i give it gas aswell.. i cant be the only one this has happened to can i ?

dude like he said check the coil but not just the coil the IGNITION control module too. ive had my coil die out on me on my old civic, then after the coil was replaced the old coil damaged the ICM. and if the icm is bad it will do this. my icm would let my civic run for 15 mins then itd sputter out and start dyin on me. replaced it and it never gave me **** again. and for holding the gas to get it started, id check the IACV to see if its stuck closed. thatll give u ****ed up idling too. main relay. **** LOL those ****ing things are a joke. if you are soldering savvy take it inside, pry off the cover and resolder the points on all of em. even if it ISNT the problem do it anyway. main relays are prone to their solder joints breaking causing your **** to not want to start sometimes.
