well i figured maybe a bad tune.. but i just bought a new chip from phearable.net so you think it could be that? theres really no mods done to the car except odb1 p28, auto to manual swap.. and i think he put an rsx muffler or tip on it... im not sure if its anything more than that exhaust wise... i was thinking about replacing dizzy plugs and wires.. but i didnt think they could really drag the mpg down that much... and the o2 sensor? theres no cel... so what do i do? just start throwin money at it?

hmm ive been researchin a lil bit... i heard that when you swap the ecu with a conversion harness you have to put a resistor box in for the injectors is this correct? how can i tell if the previos owner did this or not? and if this is required is there anything else i should check to see if it has been done for the ecu swap?

does the car seem to run OK? have yo checked for fuel leaks? can you smell fuel while driving? Even a bad tune would be hard to get that bad of mileage. I've seen leaky/blown injectors give this exact problem, but thats about it.

the car seems to run and drive well... the idle is funky though (i believe its due to an untuned ecu but who knows).. when i start it, it starts like a carborated car and needs gas to bring the rpms up for a sec and then it idles at around 1k then when its warm or im driving it... it idles from 1500-2000 (with a/c off, 750-1000 a/c on)... i havent seen any leaks or drips and i believe with the gas mileage im getting i shouldve seen one... although the EVAP stuff has been removed and the line on the firewall is open.. is this a problem? idk what else... i had a short in my wiring harness somewhere for my vss.. for now i just ran a jumper wire from the vss to the speedometer but i did buy a whole new engine and dash harness to replace that cause there are open wires and such and i have no idea what kinda patches were done prior... but there isnt a cel...

oh and i cant smell gas while driving.. i just smell the exhaust smell that you can tell its running rich when you start it etc you know what i mean?

so you have a modified, but untuned ECU? (not a bad tune, but untuned...) so, you have no idea what your air/fuel mixture is?

If this is correct, then wipe out everything before...a modified yet untuned ECU could not only render horrible gas mileage, but you're probably lucky you havent blown your motor.

Find out what's done to that ECU/swap in a stock ECU and see if it improves it for a tank, then...get that thing tuned (but you're going to have to know the modifications in that ECU to do this properly)

^^^ this x2

sounds like you're burning WAY too rich. There's no need for you to have to give the car gas in order to start it, that's got bad news written all over it.

Why not start with the small thing first befor you assume its the ecu. Like maybe the fuel filter?? Just my thought bro. You could try to clean you iacv for the idel problem. It sometimes works

bought the car with a chipped p28.. dont have the original ecu.. have no idea why it was removed or changed.. although it was swapped from auto to manual... i bought a chip from phearable.net.. i thought he said it would be fine to run the car with this chip as long as the motor didnt really have any mods(it doesnt.. intake) i guess i misunderstood... i replaced the iacv, cleaned and screwed the deal back in on the fitv... fixed my broken speedo/odom (broke right after i bought) thats how i noticed the gas mileage..

so is there anything i should look for before getting it tuned that might help? or should i just get it tuned right away... seems like its around $300 for a tune so.. that seems like a chunk to spend on a whim.. so im saying yall are prolly right a/f mixture is prolly incorrect but.. i thought thats why i bought a chip with a h22 basemap? idk im knew to this tuning stuff...

anyway i guess i picked the wrong car to buy.. cause im in the market for a new clutch(noticed it slipping a bit, was told it was exedy stage 1), ive also replace the clutch slave and master, put new tires on it, alignment... it needs gaskets for tail lights cause the trunk has water in it... had no hi-beams cause i guess it had HID kit or somethin... broken headlight and turn signal lens on passenger side.. i wanna get rid of the shitty *** carbon fiber hood(although he did supply me with a orig hood but its green and needs to be painted and such) seems like it needs different brake pads cause these ones throw dust like crazy(i cant keep my wheels clean for 5 seconds of driving.. and the **** sticks!) the battery is kinda just sitting in there with a rubber strechy hold strap(whatever they are called) and the braket is missing from under neath.. the intake is just kinda laying in there, although it is hose clamped to TB... anyway to say the least im kinda upset cause ive only had the car maybe a month and havent been able to really enjoy... im just trying to get my car right and not half assed like this **** im finding now..

so i could do without criticism and could just use help.. any help very appreciated.. everthing else, you already know.. sorry for the long post and sorry if i come off as a n00b but i guess i kinda am so damn give me a break and i definitely dont talk like a suburban white boy tryin to be black or whatever its reffered to as..

You only need a resistor box if you're using OBD1 injectors because they're different.

I would send your ecu to phearable.net or one of the other vendors that can do a complete reflash of it. They should also be able to look at it and see what has been done. They should just put a stock flash on it for a manual prelude. That will at least make the car run stock and then you could trouble shoot any issues with other parts.

I averaged 28mpg with my stock internal H22A with my street tuning. OEM computer was usually around 26mph with 31.5 being the best.

Are you sure you have an H22?? That looks like some numbers I saw in Import Tuner for an N/A D-series, slightly higher, so maybe an F-series?

Those numbers are stupid low for an H22, try a compression test and a leak down.
