Del sol with idleing problem/slow to start
Hey guys,
Just bought this car, and it is having a problem.
1. The car seems to crank over fine, but it cranks for a while before it starts. Usually I crank it for a few seconds, then stop, then crank more and it will start.
2. Today when I was at a light I put the car in neutral. The motor's RPM's were not staying very consistant, and the motor died. I put it in park, then I was able to get it going after cranking a good bit.
2. Later on I started the car and when I went to take off it stalled (automatic). I had to restart.
Has new fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, radiator, rad lines, etc. Engine runs good and very clean on the smog printout. My thought is that the fuel pump is going bad, so the motor is being starved of fuel at the lower RPM's. Let me know what you guys think

I also have a 93 del sol si auto.
Check your timing.
Maybe clean the FITV ( fast idle throttle valve) and IACV (intake air control valve).
Check your throttle cable adjustment.
Check your spark plug gap.
If these symptons happen when your AC is on that's common. I'm still chasing that.
Also you may have a vacuum leak. Check all hoses around the throttle body.

-Throttle adjustment isn't the issue, it's fine the idle is just all over the place.
-New spark plugs, gaped, didn't change anything
Vacuum leak is a possibility but that just doesn't seem like it would make it crank over for a long time like it does before it starts

Turn key on (II) position and make sure fuel pump is running good. If you have changed everything else, might as well go for fuel pump to for ***** and giggles.

I think I'm either going to take it in to get it diagnosed or just put a fuel pump in it at this point. But I am still hoping for someone who might have had the same situation.
Of course I did, a while back.
Any more input? I just bought a fuel pump and I am going to install it today. I also checked the relay solder joints and I saw that 2 of them were bad, fixed them, but it didnt seem to make a difference with the starting.
I just bought a new mail relay, I had 2 cracked joints on mine. I soldered both of them but it didn't make a difference. I'm going to just put the a new OEM one in there and see if that makes a difference.
This weekend I am going to try to take it in to the dealer to get it diagnosed. I am guessing it has to be fuel related but who knows at this point.
