Default Is a 1998 spec b18c ITR plug and play in a 1998 GSR

This is probably a stupid question, but i cannot find a clear answer. I know i need axles but the wire harness is my largest concern. ECU will come with it as well as axles. are there any other mods i need to do to do this swap? Thanks in advance.

No one done this swap recently? Google was no help. I know it has been done, i just need to know what i need if anything. I have searched the forum, but maybe i don't know what to type in the search box. Any thread recommendations are appreciated.

By the way, the axles that come with are probably not the right size - the JDM ones have a 36mm nut on the end rather than 32mm that the USDM market uses, you be careful and specify or you'll end up spending the extra $$ for axles that won't go into your hubs.

Unless you're handy with electrical work, wiring, splicing, etc - get a USDM harness. The right-hand drive means that things are reversed (but not the engine) and are therefore longer in some cases and shorter in others...

It should be plug & play. The only difference would be that the gsr has a shorter iac wire which would need to be extended, and it has an iab plug. That's about it I think.

Mark thanks for the info. I have looked at these before. The first thread was useful just incomplete. I wonder if he ever finished the car? What i took from it was to use the jdm type r ecu with the usdm gsr harness. there will be some plugs hanging that are not needed. Does rywire offer a better harness? I will have to email them. I will look into the axles as well, thanks for that, I had no idea. Will usdm type R axles work? If i can come up with the 4500 for the swap i will be taking it on and will learn more as i go. The second helps a lot you explain it pretty good just needed to be highlighted for me i guess. lol

BTW mark how is the 96 running? Do you still have it?

Donut thanks, i hope this is the case it will make my life a lot easier and funner lol. I love rpms. i was hooked the first time i took my b16 to 8k. There is nothing like it. 9k will be insane i'm sure.

I don't know if he finished. I finally got mine done and on the road this past month - put a JDM B18CR into it. I'd picked up a USDM harness and did the mods myself. It's a tradeoff - the harness from a USDM R would require fewer changes - since the GSR intake routes the wiring slightly differently - so I had to extend the IAC wires a few inches. Then of course there was no CKF, IAB, EVAP, or VTEC oil pressure switch - so I removed them and shrink wrapped the ends so the harness looked clean.

Harness from an USDM R would still have CKF, VTEC solenoid, EVAP but the lengths would be correct for the ones you had.

I'm sure there are aftermarket solutions - that's more of a budget issue (!)
