Trying to put my Coupe into the 13's
I've got a 95 Civic EX Coupe with a JDM SiR II swap. Currently, I have a Clutchmasters flywheel, ACT HD clutch with street disc, AEM CAI, C & R Radiator. I'm trying to find the direction that I want to go next with my engine. I'm trying to stay away from turbo because two of my friends have already turboed their cars, and one of them is on his 4th engine. So, I'm considering either a supercharger (JRSC or Vortech) or N/A. Reliability is a pretty key issue. My car is my daily driver, and I rely on it as my transportation. If I did supercharge, what kind of boost would I need to be running. What about a stand-alone engine management system? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I was kinda going for that reliability thing here. My budget is going to be about $3500, and I want to do it right. It's not going to be a track car, but more of a fun daily driver. Maybe I shouldn't be going for quarter mile times, but I guess that's what I use as bearing right now.
I've kinda noticed crappy times out of a lot of the supercharger systems that are out there. Most of them get into the low 14's at best from what I've been seeing. Opinions?
Mine (jackson Racing supercharger) has been running on my prelude for 5 months now. I think the supercharger is great. As far as being less reliable I dont know where you made that up from. Any forced induction can be dangerous if not properly tuned. I haven't gotten mine tuned yet but i'm at 6psi so i should be fine until next month when i get my hondata installed. I am soon to be running 13.0's hopefully high 12's on street tires. Serious Tuning here i come! I would save up another 1k or so and then buy a JRSC then hondata and injectors. you won't be disappointed. Remember its your car do whatever you want as long as you are happy with the results turbo, supercharger whatever Its nice to see another honda that just isn't going to "look fast"

stay n/a yo...more reliable...its gonna cost more but i would be more satisfied to say i ran 13.5 all motor rather than saying i ran 13.5 turbo just my opinion
by the way if you get a supercharger don't get Vortech. The worst of both worlds. All that lag of a turbo and and all the parasitic loss of a supercharger. It only gives you that claimed 100+ hp near redline. Although it will put you in to the 13's my friend has an SI with Vortech. I just think if you go supercharger you should have the power there always just my 0.02

NITROUS
$3500 will not get you into the 13's NA. Sorry.
JRSC done properly will get you into low 14's, but for closer to $4k-4.5k.
Good luck.

Nitrous is not really much of an option at this point. Doesn't do much for the "reliable" part of that power.
A poorly tuned turbo or supercharger can ruin your day just as fast as N02 can.
Hell, ask all the folks in the FI forum to tell you the horror stories about JRSC's before the advant of Hondata.

but in the long run bottle after bottle it starts to get expensive
If this guy's plan is to race at the drag strip and run 13's, how is that going to be expensive?
Let's see,
daily driver - All motor
weekend racer - Turn on the bottle
Done.

A supercharged b16 will give you a 13.99 if you gut the car down and run the 8lb boost upgrade, also suggest very free flowing exhaust and kamikazee header.
My opinion is to go with nitrous, it definitely the cheapest way to get to the 13's. You say you only want to spend around 3500. Like somone else said, NA is gonna be expensive so that's out of the question. But you don't want the juice or forced induction because of reliability. If you want reliability stay stock and don't race.
I read on here one time the best thing ever:
you can only have 2 of three things at any given time
cheap
reliable
fast

Here is an idea let him make up his own mind. I'm sick of these Turbo owns your supercharger comments. I'm making 233whp @ 6psi and 189lbs of tq. This was done in a closed garage dyno with 105 degree temps. Show me a turbo setup on a Prelude at 6psi that is soooo much better. Secondly I make peak tq at 4k and it is a flat band after that. My car is very capable of running 13's. Without a boost upgrade it is not capable of 12's. Nitrous is great if all you want to do is run fast times for a couple runs and don't need the speed all the time. Turbos are great also if you are looking to upgrade internals. This is where the Turbo shines. With a built block you can up the boost and then the power comes. My point is neither is that much better than the other, it is all just a matter of choice.
