What axles to use on 88 EF 4door SOHC ZC?
This may seem like a Dumb question But both of my axles are in need of replacement. I have been looking online for a easy way to find out what Axles I need to by for my car and came up with different Spline counts.I would like to know before I order the axles this way I don't have alot of down time when I am ready to change them out because in my local auto parts store these are a special order item and not kept in stock. I am running a SOHC ZC with I believe a 5spd ZC tranny not sure. Does anyone know how I can tell what tranny I have ZC or SI it seems to run at a higher RPM on the freway than a friends si hatch? My car is a 1988 Civic DX only mods are ZC swap. Thanks for any help.
Your stock axles will work with every transmission EXCEPT the DOHC ZC trans.
That one has an intermediate shaft (comes out the transmission and bolts to the back of the motor) which should use ZC axles. Many people have had success with 90~93 non-abs Integra axles (remove the dust cover out of the hub) while others have an issue with one side popping out.

I finally got around to ordering my axle. They had two one for the 1.5 engine and one for the 1.6 engine. My car originally was a 1.5 Now it has a 1.6 sohc ZC So I orderd the one for the 1.6 engine. I hope I orderd the correct one
, I'd hate to have to take it back after taking the axle out and wait another 2 days for a new axle...

check the code on the top of your tranny. That'll tell you what tranny you are running. Would blow serious chunks to find out you ordered the wrong axle.

THE AXLE FOR THE 1.6 IS ABOUT A FOOT SHORTER THAN THE 1.5 FOR MY 4DOOR... So even though my car has a 1.6 I had to order the Axle for the 1.5 plus the 1.5 comes in tWo different ones, ONE With 23 splines on inboard joint AND ONE WITH With 26 splines on outboard joint end. I had order the 26 spline Axle. I will attempt to do this again sometime this week I hope this is the only trouble I come accross.....
All CRX and Civic have the same spline count on the inner joint.
The outer joint is 26 splines for all the sedans -1.6 or 1.5 motor size doesn't matter.
The STD hatch and HF CRX have 23 spines on the outer joint.
They definitely sent you the wrong axle.

yeah, the effed it up on their end. For the most parts, like 4dref pointed out, the should all be the same with the exception of the STD civic hatch and the DOHC ZC trans with the intermediate shaft.
