Default best bang for the buck drag radial?

The infamous bfg drag vs nitto 555r debate... who has has experience with these tires or recommends another tire that i didnt list.. about to retune to 320+whp and want to make my car as true of a street car as possible and that includes my tire selection. I know first gear is useless but looking to hook 2nd gear.

Sonic!!!! yo shout out to your crew mad respect! been looking for you or another socal street kat to help me out since i know kats like us need to get that power to the ground since cash money relies on it. You dont think the 555rs for that cheap will hold me over with 240whp180tq on 6psi (running on the wastegate spring)?? and where can i get these coveted mt's for a good price? How much are you guys airing your tires down to on the street? The mt's dont seem to come cheap but so many people swear by them..

If you are going to get some nitto 555r's just get some falken zeix ze512's or neo gens in a good size. 215-55-15's or 225-50-15's are good. The M/T's are expensive but well worth it imo. I just bought a set of them and they are GREAT!

Wassup bro we havent used the 555R's since back in the day when we use to roll all motor power. You did'nt say what kinda car there going on? the weight factor will determine alot on if there gonna hold the power to the ground. Since were all boosting or on the bottle we stay on slicks but we did try the M/T on the street they worked really good to our surprise if you can get the 555R's for cheap it wont hurt to give them a try or you can save $$$ an get what works for sure it's ur call.

I run 225 Mt on the street and still don't dead hook till 4th. Maybe 3rd if the tires are warm and the road is clean and flat.

GringoTegra had good results with Nitto NeoGen (205-50-15 if i remember correctly).. went 11.7 i think on them in a boosted Teg making around 400whp.

But this dude has a shoebox overflowing with timeslips.. so i'm sure part of that was "driver" and "seat time"..

I'm not sure what more you cna ask for , for the price.

The NeoGen is listed at $65 per tire NEW!

I personally run the MT 225-50-15s.. But at $300 for the pair it's a lil pricy- but they work well when not overpowered.

Wow this is the most bad experience I have heard out of the M/T 225's. I went 11.8's on a set of BFG's and it would spin almost through 2nd/3rd. I switched to the M/T's and it would barely spin in 2nd! And that is with over 250 ft/lb's! What is your setup Pootie and Mr. johnson? I would like to know what the differences are between mine and yours that would make you spin and mine hook.

They worked fine on wastegate (15psi around 410-420whp)...got up to 20psi (470-480whp'ish and it would spin, and then hook in 3rd and 4th)

over 500whp i'd assume you'd be playing the pedal game. And i can just imagine how bad it would be on the street.

The set-up was:
81mm LsVtec (CP 9.7:1 and eagles, Ls crank and rods)
ITR head with ITR cams, mild PnP
T3 topmount with a SC61 on C16 ,eCtune
GSR trans w/itr diff, ClutchMasters FX700 twin

I normally run on a slick, but made a few passes on the M/T 225's.. I'm sure with some seat time i could have compensated for some of the spinning with driver adjustments. And boost by gear is a veryyy good option for any DR car. (my soloniod went bad, and i didn't get a chance to play with it)

MT 225/50/15 here as well. Hooks up pretty good with about 15 PSI in the tires.

I did better on my Falken Ziex's than my Nitto 555R's. They were heavy and didn't offer any better traction that a used tire from the local shop.

How much power are you making?

I'm using the MT 3751R (225/50/15). I make 476WHP and hook no problem in 3rd gear, and hook just fine if I granny shift into 2nd gear. This is with about 15 PSI in the tires.

M/t 225s work good for mid 400 and under anything more then that your going to have traction issues on the street its a given. Ive had the 225 bfgs as well as the m/t theyre both about the same the bfgs are a little more street friendly because of te tread pattern, so if u get caught in the rain it wont be all over the road as bad. On a good surface they both hook. Bfgs are a little lighter also.
