I'm in the process of slamming my car and i had an idea and was wondering if anybody has done it. The car is a 98' Civic. I've dropped it about 2.5 inches but I want to go lower. Ive noticed that my inner tie rods have been going out...i changed them about 2 months ago and there already bad. The question is if i were to take the outer tie rods and swap them from side to side (Left outer tie rod on Right and Right outer tie rod on Left) and flip the way it is mounted (instead of the castle nut on the bottom...mount it on the top) Would this make the angle of the tie rods lesser without rubbing the wheels or wheel-well when turning??? I was thinking that with the tie rod being angled as much as it is and my suspension being so stiff that it is effecting the tie rods.

it may work but the hole in the spindle is tapered. so the tie rod will never seat, they do make a drill bit to what u want but the i think you would have to find a custom tie rod that has the inner tie rod size and the new size of the hole

 

as stated, the tie rod end has a taper where it mates up to the wheel knuckle/hub. If you were to flip the tie rod over and put it on the bottom, the taper would be wrong.

I'm sure someone has found a way to work around this.. I would lay under the car and watch all the components work when you turn the wheel to help figure out the best way to fabricate somethin up..

I don't understand how you people drive around on your slammed suspension. The ride is horrible and you can't get in half the parking lots. Every bump in the road feels like hitting a speed bump at full speed.

That's subjective. I think cars that are dumped look like crap. I nice set of wheels with the right offset and lowered a amount that complements the car nicely is perfect. To each his own.

 

Let the man drive around on slammed suspension if he wants to but yea maybe just try getting some custom tie rods... not to get off subject but nothing looks better to me then a slammed civic if your worried about how a car rides... buy a Cadillac
