i dont personally have one but would think that it will make your exhaust alot louder. and free up the exhaust more.

Most of them do not make your car a whole lot louder. They're allot less restrictive than the stock cat. I have experience with the Random Tech cat(not so good) and a Carsound cat(good).

Check with SMSP (Carsound Cat=pass inspection)

Yes. Most people report paying around $100 for the carsound cat.

I have a 95 LS w/ DC 4-1 header, carsound cat and ITR catback. I dunno how much difference just the cat makes since everything was put on at once, but the car feels faster than stock *shrug* . I passed emissions with no problems.

what other mods do you have? its a good idea to replace cat when you have a nice header and pushing enough hp.

I have a carsound and there is a certain sound like "blowing over a soda pop bottle" kind of sound at certain RPMs. I am very happy with mine.

What are the numbers that you need to be under to pass CA emissions? Cause I bet I could pass with my carsound cat.

edit: Just dug up my #'s for NJ state inspection. This was done on a 95 b18b1 w/ 90k miles and w/ Drag3 turbo on it and carsound cat.

Gas:...Limit:...Actual:
NOx....1134....110
HC......146......25
CO%..(.82)....(.01)

Tom

EXAMPLE:

Built LS + Greddy evo + Cat = Deep exhaust note and quick

Built LS + Greddy evo + HiFlow Cat = Deep exhaust note.. BUzzing sound at certain RPM... little loss of low end power .. a little increase in top end power ... VERY LOUD

Built LS + Greddy evo + str8 pipe = Deep exhaust note.. Buzzing sound at certain RPM ... little loss of low end power ... a little increase in top end power ... LOUDER

Final Result:
Built LS + Greddy evo + Cat = Deep exhaust note and quick.. no buzz anymore

I was under the max limit on all (under the required limit) except on NOx where I was over the max limit...my car was initially classed as being exceeding gross polluter limits. Even after pulling out the ITR ECU and swapping in a LS ECU, my car could barely pass...the car had to be driven hard for 30 minutes.

Sounds like the butt dyno hard at work. A highflow cat should not drop any low end.

Stock cat for an aftermarket exhaust setup =

Lets think about this in terms of diameters.

Your header is probably a 2" collector
The stock cat is a 2" inlet
The stock cat has a 1.8" outlet
Your exhaust is 60mm OD.

Do you see the bottleneck going from 2" to 1.8" out to 60mm? Not to mention the stock cat has very poor flowability. Would you do the same to your intake pipe? Go from 2.5" to a poor flowing 2.25", back out to a 2.5" again?

Your math is cool and all ... but at the moment .. that integra is AUTO .. it needs all the backpressure / low end torque i can get .. it wasnt any drastic loss but putting the stock CAt back on it feels like there is more low end power

i liked the performance i received with the High flow / Str8 ... but the Buzzing sound was a turn off

I've used a resonated test pipe on my '96. Sounded fine, perhaps even better than the stock cat.
