Default 94 Accord - Boost issue

Hello, Im brand new to the site and this is my first post. So if it is in the wrong section please let me know so i can move it anyways onto the issue at hand.

I bought this car because I was looking to start getting away from the American scene. usually always had pick ups or a mustang here or there. and this car seemed to be the perfect way in fact a bit more then I can chew at times. Today I went over to a buddies and he said it wasnt pushing any boost (has a 50trim and was told its pushing 8 pounds) well in fact i was looking at the gauge move but never actually watch it go past the vacuum pressure side, even though I can hear the turbo spool and the bov go off. It had a broke janky boost controller that is/was broke. with only 1 vacuum line on the bottom fitting of the waste gate which has been removed now the fitting on the bottom of the waste gate is T'd into a vacuum sorce and the top line on the waste gate is still open. Other then that we checkd for play in the turbo's shaft, there is a small amount but i figure that is normal to allow it to spin and spool... there is no coupler leaks,

I can take pictures tomorrow and host them so someone or anyone that is able to help or any ideas can see the set up.

Im at a loss as to where to even start... any suggestions or ideas are helpful thank you all in advance.

-Alex

what it sounds like is that your wastegate is wide open and its dumping everything. even though you can hear it spool, do you get the woosh from teh BOV? well, i can speculate all i want but, pics would be best....

Pictures will be posted soon with in the hour. Thanks again for helping/ reading

not to flood this, but common sense tells me the mbc should have both lines hooked up... (also I have a new one on its way the old on the screw was just sitting in the threads..)

If i had to guess, i'd say that the T from the wastegate line should be removed. The boost controller should go on the line from the charge pipe to the bottom port of the wastegate.

edit: You can also remove the boost controller and run the line straight from the wastegate to the charge pipe. That will allow you to run the boost level set by your wastegate spring.

so until my MBC comes in the mail i should just put a solid vacuum line from the waste gate to the port on the pipe by the turbo? and also there is no T from the waste gate the T is from the BOV. and what do i do about the port on the top of the wastegate? just leave it open??

this is an old pictures i had from an eletronic boost control set up. i assume its the same. search aroiund there are different ways it can go, test some out and see what works best

also when you link pictures use the .[img]picturelinkgoeshere[/img] tags and it will show directly like mine (dont put the first period.)

if you got a few bucks to spend id suggest to get the electronic boost controller, push to connect fittings and dot hard line. makes for a cleaner more secure setup.

yea i definitly want an eletronic boost control setup but currently my money is going into a different project i currently have almost finished so a manual one im hoping will last me until I can start my accord. So is that set up the same even if i take out the Boost controller? (i took your image and used paint on it fast)

no, if there was no boost controller i don't think you need the top port of the waste gate hooked up

now just to make sure but there is no port on the turbo its self. in fact the only one close I can find is best showen in the picture I posted. is this port still fine and will work?

it comes up from the turbo then that pipe leads all the way into the driver side of the intercooler

yes that is fine. try hooking the open end of your mbc to the top of the wastegate and see if anything changes

alright I will when i get the new MBC that one i found was broke... pretty much the threaded adjuster was stuffed in therenot to mention the hose lines are all dry rotted and crappy. the new one im going to run all the way into the cabin like it is suppose to be but if i dont do it that way then its just going to find a better spot in the engine bay. thanks for all the help! i went driving and it hit 3lbs.... hahah but tonight or tomorrow im going to possibly take a look at the waste gate. can i just take the clamp that holds the top to the bottom off and look inside that way or do i need to remove it completely from the headers

in that final picture, from your WG, there's a few inch hose, then a T, then one side goes to a MBC and the other goes to the charge pipe. Remove the T and run one straight from the bottom port of the WG to your charge pipe. That will let you run the spring pressure of your wastegate. If you did that and get 3 pounds, that's a 3 pound spring. Also, like others said, make sure your wastegate is seating correctly on the manifold. I was missing a piece of mine (valve seat)when I first installed and it leaked quite a bit of exhaust past. Wouldn't build much boost.

alright, so this is what iv come too i put the vacuum line from the wastegate (bottom) to the one by the turbo. after driving around my neighbor hood and making my neighbors hate me even more iv come to the conclusion that the wastegate is most likely a 5lb spring. so now what is the best plan of action? just use the MBC to make it go higher or in combination with the mbc get a bigger spring?

http://www.tialsport.com/documents/w3_tial_44_sp.pdf and from what i saw. the spring inside the wastegate was a maroon color spring. so im thinking its 4.3 psi which would read correct on my pillar gauge.

Yea, sounds right. Your options to raise your boost are install a harder spring (if you always want to run a higher minimum boost) or install a boost controller.

what are u using for engine management? what ecu do you have? injector size. before you start raising boost you should look into this. do you have a wide band o2 sensor and gauge. i dont want you to lean out and blow up your motor by raising the boost.

damn it!!!!!! hahah good idea. to be honest ill have to find out what ecu i have, my injectors i have not a clue. and as far as a wide band gauge I do not have anything. So all that are great ideas that probably just saved me my motor.
