I just bought a 93 hatch manual a few months ago. and the guy that i bought it from did a swap for a d16y8 engine out of a 96 civic. so here is the problem. i was trying to engage vtec but it does not work. so i took it to the shop to check it. and they told me that I dont have a Vtec Ecu. that the car has the ecu that come from factory with the 93 civic. So he told me to get a vtec ecu but my question is. I already searched and i found that the ecu i need is a p2p for d16y8. but im wondering if it matters which p2p ecu i have to use. cuz there are some with the p2p a81 and so on. so i wanna know if it really matters. or If i can use any p2p ecu. Thanks!

 

Use any P2P ECU.


Best bet would be to use a chipped P28 with a Y8 base map.

 

Whats the difference between a p2p and a p28?

 

P2P is OBD2 and a P28 is OBD1. P28 can be chipped, and doesn't look for a knock sensor. P2P cannot be chipped easily and looks for a knock sensor.

Alternatively, the P05 or P06 ecu you have can be converted if you send it off. Or sell it. I get ECUs for $20, that's what I'd offer for it.

 

P28= 92-95 Civic Ex/Si OBD1
P2P= 96-00 Civic Ex OBD2

Reason I say to use a P28 is because a P2P will look for a knock sensor, IAT sensor, Purge solenoid valve and secondary o2 sensor, which your car doesnt have nor does it have the plugs on the harness.
A P28 will run fine and it will not look for those sensors.


Im selling a P28 with a Y8+turbo basemap. It could easily be flashed back to a stock Y8 map. Let me know if you want it.

 

Goodluck finding a P05 or P06 ECU for $20. I sold my chipped one with a B20+T map on it for about $75. Plus, hell have to convert it to VTEC, P28 already has it

 

Can mechanics at shops install it? and how much you want for it? Does it have the wire harness?

 

My wife can install an ECU.

 

The ECU has 3 wire plugs connected to it. Remove them by pressing on the clips. It is beyond easy I shouldnt even have to explain it.


Im selling it for $100 shipped. You dont need a wire harness because its plug and play for your car since its OBD1.

 

I get ECUs for $20, I know not everyone has connections though.
Adding VTEC is fairly easy. It's a handful of parts and about 30-45 minutes. P28s do indeed already have VTEC, but there's not that many of them around. P05s, P06s, P75s, PR4s, etc are more common. There's more base models than EX and Si models. Simple as that.

 

Does it have the vtec wire? cuz thats wat i need right there. the vtec ecu with the vtec wire. so my vtec can work. and ok ill buy it but ill buy it next week if you dont sell it.

 

I also have a p28 ecu. Mechanic told me mine was bad so bought a replacement and then found it was the new bosch oxygen sensor sending the code. Apparently Honda doesn't "like" Bosch parts. Ecu is $100.

See the pic? well the wire set that comes from the ecu is the one behind. i need the ecu to come with those wires. cuz mines does since its not vtec. i only have the vtec wire from the engine the one in front. So your ecu has the wires set?
