oil press low at 3k?
ok guys first of all im new to the forum congrats on a great forum,im have a b18c recently rebuild ,but recently ive noticed that the oil press when cold is great but when reaching operating temperatures i have like 15 psi on idle and 42 psi on 3k,i read that it should be 50 psi on 3k if i keep revving it up it will go up to 80 psi but my concern is if i can harm the motor at that particular range where i dont have enough press, also no problem hitting vtec no oil press loss, the pump is new thanks for the reply!!
The reason you havent gotten any responses is probably because you don't have a C5. JDM B18C*Rs are different than USDM C5s. Try the hybrid/swap/all motor forums.
but the PSI's sound good to me..
anyone else think otherwise?

on the bright side it could just be a bad pressure reading. did you take the reading from the oil pressure sending unit in the back of the motor?
you're in a troll forum, all motor or the regular integra section is where you'll find the most help. generally low oil pressure is something bad, it's either

jaja thanks men i was just looking for a fast response, well my motor is just rebuilt full, new pump bearings rings i mean all and im using a glowshift press gauge its just im concerned that the low oil press could lead to engine wear ,the pump its alright because if i revv the motor to 7k or higher the press will be 80 psi ,i was using 10w 30 oil and i change it to 10w 40 i was told to use ticker oil to get higher press but i was advised not to cause that will lower the oil flow ,im getting like 40 to 45 psi operating press @ 3k ,50 to 55 psi @4k, 60 to 65 psi @5k and keeps on,and i appreciate your response
that's not really bad either. used crank, worn block etc. you really don't want to go tight with used parts,
clearances on the bottom end are probably slightly loose which is good for whp, shortens life a bit though. roughly 10psi per 1k rpm is completely safe though. just sounds like it was setup loose.

just incase you were wondering why race engines are setup loose it's two fold
1. increase in whp
2. the bitch don't seize
a stock engine, even the hand of god built precious b18c5 if used for all out competitive road racing would benefit from a tear down and clearancing on the looser end of spec ala spoon crate motor
boom, knew it. that's actually safer and capable of making more whp being setup that way. it also means you can probably run 10-40w or 15-50w syn oil. double check with the machine shop before you do but if they set you up loose it's perfect for a thicker oil film

Happy you like the article. As noted 10 psi/1000 rpm is usually good. Since the shop set it loose, did they intend a 30 or 40 oil. You might ask them. As you are reading the article, pressure and flow can go opposite direction. It seems that you want adequate/good pressure and high flow, not high pressure and lower flow. All that said, some run 0w-40 on the track because the oil temp creeps up a little and thins it. This is on standard tolerance. You can also check oil temps.
